Samsung launches three 5 megapixel cameras

The final three 5 megapixel cameras to be launched by Samsung are in the A series. First up is the beginner-friendly fixed-lens Digimax A502, which has four scene modes and a 1.8-inch LCD. The Digimax A55W and Digimax A50 (pictured) sport almost identical spec, although the former has a 5x zoom and the latter has a 3x zoom. Features include in-camera video editing, 2.5-inch LCD, 32MB built-in memory, MPEG 4 movie mode and auto macro function (2cm A55W / 5cm A50). The also offer PictBridge compatibility and an Album feature for categorizing and saving your images.

Samsung Camera releases a 5 megapixel digital camera - the Digimax A502

Samsung Camera has announced that it will release a 5 megapixel high-resolution digital camera with 5X digital zoom(model name: Digimax A502) to drive penetration of the important 5 megapixel sector.

The Digimax A502 is a 5 megapixel high-resolution digital camera with 5X digital zoom(7X zoom during playback) that can be used for a wide range of photographic purposes. Its compact design makes it easy to carry it around as well(dimensions: 96.5 (L) X 52.5 (H) X 29.7 (W) Weight: approximately 105 grams).

With enhanced video recording capability, (on which more and more emphasis is being placed), the Digimax A502 supports video recording in VGA resolution at 24/15 frames per second. You can record a movie clip at VGA resolution and then play it on your TV without any loss of video quality. You can also play it on your PC screen at twice the size of conventional clips. 24 fps means you can record a smoother movie.

With 4 different scene modes - Night Scene, Portrait, Landscape and Fireworks you can produce clearer pictures by choosing the appropriate mode for each individual situation. The Digimax A502 allows you to display a desired picture on the LCD screen after adjusting its size. In addition to video recording, the Digimax A502 provides various functions such as voice recording for movie narration, general voice recording and voice memo for adding voice to a regular photo. Employing a 1.8" colour TFT LCD monitor and an easy to use menu system, the Digimax A502 is a user-friendly digital camera that can be used by anyone without difficulty. It also supports PictBridge, a direct printing system that links to a printer in real time via a USB cable, without the need for a PC.

For a special photography experience, a White Balance function allows you to select from various light settings including Automatic, Sunlight, Cloudy, Sunset, Fluorescent_H, Fluorescent_L, Incandescent and User-defined.

In addition, 9 different types of Photo frame are provided for more photo fun. The Digimax A502 also provides a built-in image editing function, allowing you to edit a variety of images without a PC. You can use the Trimming function to cut an unwanted portion of an image, saving only the part you want. When you are short of memory, you can use the Resizing function to recover memory space by resizing and saving images in a smaller size. You can use the Rotating function to rotate an image in a desired direction and save it.

The Digimax A502 is equipped with a built-in memory(16MB), allowing you to save pictures without a memory card. It also provides an SD/MMC card slot to add even more memory capacity. With the Copy to Card function, you can seamlessly transfer images saved in the internal memory to an external memory. The A502 also provides various useful functions such as voice recording for up to 1 hour, voice memo for adding a short voice message to a picture and "One-touch Playback" for instant playback of a picture even when the power is off.

Samsung Camera has announced that it will release a 5 megapixel high-resolution digital camera with Samsung's 3X optical zoom SHD lens(model name: Digimax A50) to drive penetration of the important 5 megapixel category.

The Digimax A50 provides a 4X digital zoom in addition to a 3X optical zoom, achieving 12X total zoom when they are used together. It also provides 5X zoom during playback,. The Digimax A50 is equipped with a large 2.5" 200K high-resolution LCD to offer the best image quality for getting the right shot and reviewing your pictures.

For a more enhanced movie shooting experience, the Digimax A50 supports MPEG-4, the high-compression high quality video format, which can record for up to 3-4 times longer than many other video formats used in digital cameras. The Digimax A50 can even be used as a camcorder since it supports more than 1 hour of high quality video recording time if you are using a 256MB memory card. With powerful video recording in VGA(640X480) at 30 fps, the Digimax A50 provides a wider screen and clearer video quality, allowing you to enjoy your videos on the TV.

For an enhanced video recording experience, the video capability of the Digimax A50 has been improved in the following four areas:

  • First, it can reduce the camera shake that can occur during movie recording. By means of automatic detection and correction of lateral and vertical camera vibrations caused by movement, it maintains steady recording of a subject.
  • Second, the Digimax A50 adopts a continuous video recording feature, which is based on exclusive Samsung technology. The continuous video recording feature allows you to pause and resume video recording, at the touch of a button, and merge multiple movie clips into a single file at a later time.
  • Third, the Digimax A50 has a built-in video editing capability. You can edit out parts of the movie that you do not want, in the camera. It also allows you to capture a selected part of a movie clip as a still image during playback.
  • Finally, you can use the Digimax A50 optical zoom to zoom in during recording(sound is muted during use of the zoom or users can use Mute button in movie clip).

The Digimax A50 has Special Effect functions that give you a unique shooting experience beyond conventional photo-taking. The special effect functions of the Digimax A50 are Colour, Highlight, Photo Frame and Composite Shot.

  • First, Colour Effect lets you obtain various colour effects by taking a picture in B/W, Sepia, Blue, Red, Green or Negative.
  • Second, Highlight, helps you focus on the subject you want by putting the surrounding parts of the shot into soft focus.
  • Third, Composite Shot allows you to divide a combine 2-4 shots and save them as a single file.

The Digimax A50 has Continuous Shooting and Auto Exposure Bracketing(AEB) functions. You can use Continuous Shooting to shoot a fast-moving subject continuously, and get consecutive frames of the action. AEB gives a series of pictures with slightly varying exposures.
