Sony
has released a statement on its support site about a potential issue affecting
some of its Cyber-shot DSC-P1 digital cameras. The cameras may exhibit
shorter time between charges and/or the inaccurate indication of the need
for battery recharging. The issue seems to be caused by corrosion on the
connection between the AC adaptor and the camera.
Sony takes pride in the quality of its products. Recently, we became aware of a potential issue affecting some Cyber-shot DSC-P1 digital cameras. These cameras may exhibit inconsistent battery operations consisting of shorter camera operation between charges and/or the inaccurate indication of the need for battery recharging.
This symptom often results from accumulated corrosion at the connection between the supplied AC adaptor and the DSC-P1 camera. Users should keep this connection clean, as indicated in the Operating Instructions, in order to avoid this symptom. This symptom may also result from use of the DSC-P1 camera in extreme weather environments, as further described in the Operating Instructions. However, if the symptom persists, corrective action may be necessary.
For DSC-P1 camera owners who believe they are experiencing this inconsistent battery operation, Sony will provide a free diagnosis and, if necessary, a no-charge service to improve the consistency of battery operations. The improvement service may include improvements to the camera, AC Adaptor (AC-LS1A), and/or battery (NP-FS11). This improvement service will be offered until April 2004. Customers who wish to take advantage of this no-charge service will be required to ship their camera, charger and battery at their expense to Sony's Service Center in Irvine, California.
If you believe that your DSC-P1 camera has experienced these symptoms, you are invited to contact Sony Electronics' Customer Information Center at 800-222-7669 to request evaluation and possible service.
The satisfaction of our customers is our number one concern, and we will work diligently to ensure your DSC-P1 camera is in optimal working order.
