Fujifilm Germany has announced an all new ultra-compact VGA digital camera with a CMOS sensor. The iX-1 measures just 30 x 51 x 124 mm (1.2 x 2.0 x 4.9 in) and weighs just 96 g (3.4 oz) without its two AAA batteries. It has a fixed focal length, fixed focus F3.0 lens (36 mm equiv), 8 MB of internal flash storage and USB connectivity. It can also capture video clips and be used as a webcam. Price is expected to € 89 (approx. $80).
Snapshot camera for an online world
The market for low-priced, low-resolution cameras is booming. Although those cameras are not suitable for taking high-quality shots, the first half of the year in Germany saw more than 40,000 sales of these simple snapshot cameras which are best used for quick photo fun and sending photographs over the Internet or via e-mail
Fuji Photo Film (Europe) GmbH is now introducing a new model, the Fujifilm iX-1, at an extremely low price of just 89 Euro. This camera has VGA resolution and allows for image sizes of 640 x 480 pixels. This makes the camera a clear candidate for picture fun in the online world. Whether you want to refresh your home page with new images, enrich your e-mails with photographs or enjoy editing those images on your monitor - the new fun camera from Fujifilm is the perfect choice for you.
At a weight of only 94 grams and with dimensions not larger than a pencil case, the tiny camera fits easily in any handbag, desk drawer or glove box. Up to 26 images in VGA resolution (640 x 480) can be stored on the built-in 8 MB chip, and the USB port makes for easy transfer to a PC.
Also usable as a webcam and for video clips
The iX-1 is also well suited for video conferencing. Amongst the accessories supplied is a sturdy mount for attaching the camera to a PC monitor, as well as the necessary transferring software. The video-clip function allows for the storage of short image sequences, a feature which probably will be of special interest for all sports fans. It was never easier to record your golf swing and send it over the Internet.
Included in the package are two lithium batteries, a USB cable, a camera bag and a CD-ROM with all necessary drivers. The Fujifilm iX-1 will be available from November.
