Reviews Ratings revisited

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and if it were possible to see into the future it would make rating todays digital cameras much easier. Unfortunately when we review a digital camera it can often strike us as "the best there is at the moment", this in turn means we give the camera a "recommended" or "highly recommended" conclusion. Well, not any more.
We've been back over all our reviews and re-rated them, they've now been placed into one of six clearly defined categories:
- Below Average
- Above Average
- Highly Recommended
Just to let manufacturers know, it's going to be very difficult to get a Highly Recommended status (as it should be). The Highly Recommended status is now reserved for those cameras we see as either groundbreaking or truly unique in terms of development, image quality or value for money.
This more critical approach makes it easier to rate cameras (and improvements to cameras) further on down the road.
