VeriPic Digital Photo Authentication System Shipped

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 14, 2000--Kwan Software Engineering, Inc. has announced that it has shipped Release 1.00 of the VeriPic(TM) Digital Photo Authentication system. The VeriPic(TM) software is used to verify the authenticity of digital photographs for court evidence use and has been tested at a number of police departments this year. Police departments have begun to use digital cameras for evidence photography even though there have been problems with acceptance. Potential jury members believe that digital photographs are easy to forge which leaves valid crime scene digital photographs open to scrutiny.

The VeriPic(TM) software works with popular brands of Digital Cameras. After the user takes the pictures with a digital camera, he or she uses VeriPic(TM) to download the pictures onto the computer. During the download process the VeriPic(TM) software analyzes the digital photo and writes into the picture certain parameters that characterize the photo. After analysis, the photo is saved onto the computer's disk in a standard file format and can be used with all popular digital photo computer programs. When it comes time to go to court the VeriPic(TM) software can look at the photograph with its stored parameters and tell if anybody had changed the photo since it was taken with the camera. If the photo is untouched VeriPic(TM) will declare the photo to be ``Authentic.'' This will help the Police, Insurance Company, Journalist or Hospital use digital photos more confidently in court and overcome defense attorney questions of authenticity.

VeriPic(TM) was designed from the ground up for evidence photography and is a complete system that includes photographer's notes, photographer digital signature, a search utility, slide show, exhibit print out and other features in addition to the core functionality of digital photo authenticity.

Kwan Software Engineering, Inc. is a software company founded in 1994 and is currently headquartered in Sunnyvale.
