MELVILLE, N.Y., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Photographic professionals, people who use imaging technology for business, and consumers now have an opportunity to save from $100 to $300 on Nikon's award-winning digital cameras and scanners. Nikon Inc., which has experienced phenomenal growth with its Coolpix line of digital point-and-shoot cameras and its Coolscan film scanners, and has earned virtually every prestigious award for these products, has announced new, lower prices on four of its top products.

The Nikon suite of digital products includes two versatile digital cameras ``for the photographer in you.'' The Coolpix 950, originally $999, now has an MSRP of $899; and the Coolpix 800, originally $699, now has an MSRP of $599. In addition the Super Coolscan 2000 film scanner, originally $1899, now has an MSRP of $1599 and the Coolscan III, originally $999, now has an MSRP of $799. All four of these products are key players in Nikon's digital imaging family, and all are slated to continue in the Nikon line. The new pricing is in effect immediately.

``With the ease of use, performance and reliability consumers and professionals have come to appreciate from Nikon,'' said Joseph Carfora, General Manager of National Account Sales for Nikon's consumer digital products, ``people can enjoy cleaner, sharper, exceptionally bright images with our cameras and scanners. We're pleased to be able to offer this level of Nikon quality to more people by pricing these widely accepted products even more aggressively.''

The award winning Coolpix 950 camera shattered the two-megapixel resolution standard to create vastly superior images, while taking digital enlargements to the 11`` x 14'' realm. It is faster, more responsive, more technologically innovative, simpler to use and even smaller than its pre- decessors. Images captured on the 2.11-megapixel, 1/2 inch CCD can be saved in uncompressed TIFF format plus three JPEG compression modes. In addition to increased resolution, it also offers two-second boot-up, and Nikon's exclusive Matrix metering system and precision autofocus.

Built in the award-winning tradition of Nikon's highly successful, fun-to- use Coolpix family of digital cameras, the Coolpix 800 continues to shatter the two-megapixel resolution standard and create the vastly superior images that Nikon is known for worldwide. Not only is the camera small and light, for take-anywhere shooting, but its new 2x Zoom Nikkor lens offers unprecedented sharpness, clarity and color. And, with the touch of a button, picture lovers can zoom from 1x to 1.25x, 1.6x, 2x or 2.5x zoom, letting them zero in on all the action. Users can even shoot subjects as close as 2.8 inches away with the Macro setting.

A choice of Nikon exclusive 256-element matrix metering plus center- weighted and spot metering is built in to both cameras. Three optional converters for telephoto, wide angle and fisheye lenses are available. Both also include high-speed continuous shooting at two frames per second.

The Super Coolscan 2000 film scanner features unsurpassed color accuracy, unparalleled detail with its 3.6 dynamic range, and utilizes Nikon's exclusive LED technology (which emits no heat), producing consistent, accurate color rendition. Extremely versatile, the Super Coolscan 2000 scans film in 35mm strip, 35mm slide and Advanced Photo System (optional) formats with true optical resolution of 2700 dots per inch. It can also batch-scan up to 50 slides with the exclusive Nikon optional auto slide feeder. Super Coolscan 2000 also comes with Digital Ice(TM) technology, which erases fingerprints, scratches, dirt and other surface imperfections from the scan automatically, and with Altamira's Genuine Fractals(TM) software, which makes it possible for users to get images of multiple sizes, from thumbnails up to billboard size, from a single digital scan.

Nikon brings its ground-breaking film scanning technology home and makes it personal with the Coolscan III. This 35mm film scanner also utilizes the exclusive Nikon cool and consistent LED light source, features the revolutionary Digital ICE and Altamira's Genuine Fractals technology, and offers a high speed average scan time of 20 seconds, with a true optical resolution of 2700 dots per inch. Coolscan III's dynamic range of 3.0 provides high-resolution 30 bit color and file sizes up to 28MB.
