Nikon
Europe has today announced new firmware for the D100 (ver 2.00) and D1X
/ D1H (ver 1.10). Both firmware upgrades contain some common elements
such as embedded ICC profiles for Adobe RGB images and support for Lexar
Media Pro 'Write Acceleration' technology. The D100 upgrade adds support
for PTP USB connections, the D1X / D1H upgrade adds EXIF 2.2 support,
better battery power detection and additional lens information in EXIF
headers. Firmware upgrades will be carried out free of charge although
you will have to return the camera to your nearest Nikon Support Facility.

Firmware Upgrade Offer for Nikon D SLR owners
Nikon Europe are pleased to announce a firmware upgrade offering a package
of practical features for certain Nikon D-SLR users: D100 and Mac OSX
users, colour management workflow, and compatibility with new Lexar Write
Acceleration technology announced last month.
The upgrade varies between D1 series and D100 cameras and is summarized
in short below.
Nikon D100: Firmware Ver. 2.00: Available immediately.
- Support for PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) PTP has been added to
the USB protocols supported by the D100 making it possible to control
the cameras from a Macintosh OS system. Nikon Capture 3.5 required (available
Nov 2002).
- Adobe 1998 ICC profile embedded on images shot in Colour Mode II opens
automatically in Photoshop 7 or other software supporting colour
management profiles.
- Support for the latest Lexar Media Pro Series Compact Flash storage
media with Write Acceleration technology. (Increases recording speed
by about 10% depending on file format chosen).
- .Wav file naming when using memo record function with MB-D100. Wav
files numbering matches its associated image file number.
Nikon D1X and Nikon D1H: Firmware Ver. 1.10: Available November.
- Adobe 1998 ICC profile embedded on images shot in Colour Mode II opens
automatically in Photoshop 7 or other software supporting colour
management profiles.
- Support for the latest Lexar Media Pro Series Compact Flash storage
media with Write Acceleration technology. (Increases recording speed
by up to 30% depending on file format chosen).
- Recording Lens Information. Nikons unique D and G type lenses
distance information is stored allowing exploitation of a new Vignette
Control function in Capture 3.5.
- Exif 2.2 (Exif Print) compatibility.
- Improved battery detection. LCD panel icon flashes when detecting
exhausted batteries.
- Menus. New Spanish language menu option brings total to five: En/Fr/De/Jp/Es.
Menu colour appearance changes from blue to black background (similar
to the D100).
Cameras displaying serial numbers below carry this upgrade from factory:
D1X 5145001- or above D1H
5217001- or above
Customers can check the firmware version of their cameras by viewing
the shooting data information on their camera (select an image and right
push focus selector button twice) or viewing unedited images on their
computer with Nikon View or Nikon Capture software.
There is no charge for this firmware upgrade although customers will
need to return cameras to their Nikon Facility at their own cost. Return
costs will be borne by the Nikon subsidiary or distributor. Customers
are requested to contact the Service facility first to avoid unnecessary
delays. (Applies to Europe only).
