The
PhotoPlus Expo 2001 will be held between November 1st and 3rd at the Jacob
Javits Convention Center in New York City. New digital camera products
which will be shown at the exhibition will include Olympus's E-20N, Nikon
D1x, Nikon Coolpix 5000, Canon PowerShot S30 / S40 and Canon EOS-1D (as
well as others). We will update this article as soon as the organisers
of PhotoPlus Expo confirm other products which may be on show.

PHOTOPLUS EXPO TO UNVEIL NEW PHOTOGRAPHY PRODUCTS
NOVEMBER 1-3 IN NEW YORK CITY
October 1, 2001, NY, NY Photo District News (PDN), the leading
publication for professional photographers, announced today new photography
products to be unveiled by the top-selling photography companies at PhotoPlus
Expo at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City November 1-3,
2001. Leading photo companies, such as Olympus, Nikon, Canon and others
will take advantage of the large volume of press, customers, and photography
experts attending PhotoPlus Expo to demonstrate new cameras and accessories
for the first time.
New Digital Cameras:
Olympus will demonstrate for the first time, the D-40 "worlds
smallest 4 Megapixel digital camera;" as well as new never-before-seen
digital cameras, the E-20N, a 5 Megapixel SLR with the first dual interlaced
and progressive scan CCD system and the hot consumer model, the Brio D-230.
Other unannounced Olympus products will also be introduced at PhotoPlus
Expo.
Nikon will show its new D1 digital SLRs, the D1X for the best possible
image quality and the D1H for motor drive speed. Both use a wide range
of Nikkor lenses. Nikon will also display its just announced CoolPix 5000,
a 5 Megapixel camera that offers a wide range of new and expanded features.
Leading off Kodaks list of new products, is the just introduced
DCS 720x high-end digital SLR that Kodak says has a shutter response speed
said to "rival that of conventional film cameras." The Kodak
Professional DSC Pro Back Plus is the very latest version of Kodaks
recently introduced 16-million pixel digital camera back, which now can
be used with any medium format camera with an electronic shutter. Kodaks
new Ultima Picture Paper line is a heavy weight inkjet paper with longevity
ratings of 20-to more than 30 years depending on the printer used.
Canon will be introducing its new high-end 4 Megapixel digital SLR, the
EOS-1D, capable of 8fps for 21 frames (JPEG) using a 28.7mm x 19.1mm chip.
The 1D generally has the look, feel, tough construction and long list
of functions of Canons flagship EOS1V. There is also a new 16mm-35mm
f/2.8L USM wide-angle zoom which will deliver an excellent range of wide-angle
coverage with the EOS-1D and a brand new macro ring light flash system.
Film Cameras:
Hasselblad is showing its brand new 905SWC, the latest in their super-wide
camera line with a permanently attached Zeiss Biogon 38mm lens that has
been upgraded to CFi status with a completely recalculated optical design.
Also worth a look are Hasselblad 501 and 503 SLRs, available for the first
time in colors.
Digital Backs:
Phase One will have its 16-million pixel digital recording back, the
LightPhase H20 on demo. It uses a square 4,020 x 4,020 pixel CCD sensor
from Eastman Kodak producing a 48MB, 24-bit RGB file using Phase One algorithms.
The H20 has all the features of Phase Ones LightPhase series and
supports a wide range of studio and view cameras.
Sinar Bron will be demonstrating the Sinarback HR, a digital camera back
that, when combined with the Sinar Macroscan, can produce a capture as
high as 75 million pixels. The Cyber Kit is a compact battery-powered
solution that allows the use of a Sinarback on location without the need
of a laptop computer. Making its U.S. premier is the Sinar CeMagYK prepress
module for the Sinarbacks CaptureShop program, for professional
sharpening, scaling, and image preparation for output and color separation.
Panorama Camera:
The Pano-WideView from Better Light is "the first and only 4x5 digital
panorama camera
system available today." The Pano/WideView is basically a motorized
precision turntable that serves as a solid base for holding and rotating
a view camera equipped with any Better Light scan back producing high
res 360° seamless panoramic images.
Scanners:
At the FotoCare booth, CreoScitex will be demonstrating the EverSmart
Jazz high-end desktop scanners tailored to the needs of photographers,
offering "high resolution over the entire scanning format, maximum
uniform quality and sharpness and almost unlimited resolution." Also
on display will be the CreoScitex Iris Iproofer desktop CMYK proof printer.
Epsons latest scanner, the Perfection 2450 Photo, is a combination
flatbed and film scanner with an optical resolution of 2400 dpi. The Epson
six-color Stylus Photo 785EPX produces 2880 x 1440 dpi borderless 8 x
10 inch inkjet prints and has a built-in PC Card slot to print photos
without a computer. Epsons ColorLife Photo Paper is for dye-based
inkjet printers offering outstanding lightfastness and increased resistance
to atmospheric contaminants.
Printers:
The latest member of the Fujifilm Pictrography family is the model 4000II
Printer, which is much faster that the original Pictrography 4000 model
and has new Mac and Windows print drivers plus multiple paper size choices.
Fuji will also have its latest films, including Fuji Neopan 100 Acros,
an ISO 100 black and white film. The FinePix 6900 Zoom digital camera
uses a 3.3 million octagonal Super CCD sensor that yields a 6 Megapixel
picture.
Lenses & Accessories:
Tamron will have its latest lens, the AF75-300mm F/4-5.6 LD Ultra-Telephoto
Zoom on show along with the latest version of their highly successful
wide-angle to telephoto zoom, the AF28-200mm f/3.8-5.6 Super II Macro
LD Aspherical (IF) model. See also the 3-lens Bronica 645RF 6x4.5 medium
format rangefinder camera system.
Strobe makers, Dyna-Lite Inc., will be debuting one of the most unique
close-up lighting systems ever available. The ML-1000 is a multiple fiber
optic strobe system described as "the worlds most powerful
and controllable light source for micro and macro photography."
Mamiya America will have the latest Profoto Acute "e" 600WS
and 1200WS strobe power packs and heads. These are the smallest and lightest
ever offered by ProFoto and are aimed at studio photographers on a budget.
Also from Mamiya is the L-358 Flash Master described as an advanced yet
easy to operate precision exposure analyzing meter. It incorporates the
latest electronic technology including an analyzing function that "simplifies
the metering of mixed-lighting situations."
ColorVisions new Monitor Spyder, used to color calibrate computer
monitors, is said to have a combination of sensors and filters that more
closely matches the human eyes response than three or four filter
type colorimeters. It is offered as a suite, including either PhotoCal
or OptiCal calibration software.
The Crumpler bag line from Australia is described as tough, waterproof,
spongy and strong and born for the hard miles. A number of different models
are available including camera bags, laptop bags and other shoulder-type
designs.
Quantums new D30 power cord allows both the Canon D30 digital camera
and the Canon 550EX flash to be powered simultaneously by a single Quantum
high voltage rechargeable Turbo Battery. They have a similar option for
Nikon and Kodak digital SLRs and Nikon speedlites.
Velbons latest tripod, the MAXi343E (available from Hakuba USA
Inc.), extends to a height of 62-inches from a remarkably compact length
of 17.5 inches using a unique Trunnion Shaft system that weighs just 1.9
lbs.
Film Processing & Software:
Specialist film processor, drwoodfoto, has relocated to New York City
and will be showing a number of significant improvements in their unique
dr5-chrome black and white transparency process that produces black and
white transparencies from black and white negative films.
JOBOs Digital Album, used to download digital camera images from
a range of storage cards, is now available in a 20GB version with the
same features introduced with the original 10GB model.
nik multimedias nik Sharpener Pro! Inkjet & Internet is a new
software package designed specifically for optimizing digital images for
inkjet prints or Internet images.
Over 200 exhibitors will be present with never-before-seen product introductions.
