Press release:
Nikon Introduces Two New Digital Cameras With Broad Appeal.
In a perfectly-timed response to the enthusiastic reception for Digital
Cameras amongst an ever widening audience, Nikon is pleased to announce
the European launch of two new models in the award-winning Coolpix range
of digital cameras.
Based on the concepts embodied in the successful Coolpix 880, the two
new models expand the Nikon range by offering simplicity and sophistication
for both the spontaneous and serious user alike.
Spontaneity comes in the form of the pocket-able Coolpix 775. Small and
light in weight, it offers a wide-range 3x zoom lens and a resolution
perfect for high-quality album prints as well as e-mail and sharing on
the internet. With a one-touch button for transferring pictures to a computer,
support for direct printing (PRINT Image Matching compatible) and easy-to
use software, this camera is always ready to record and keep those precious
moments shared between family and friends. An easy-to use control dial
positioned on the top of the camera makes taking digital photography both
quick and simple, yet by offering a choice of eight preset scenes modes
- including a general purpose Automatic mode - optimal results are ensured
whatever the situation.
As compact as most film cameras, the Coolpix 775 is a natural choice
for families and individuals who want to make the move to digital and
to enjoy sharing their images on line and on print.
Stepping up from the Coolpix 775 in both size and performance, the new
3,21 (effective) Megapixel Coolpix 885 offers increased resolution, a
wider selection of scene modes and manages to incorporate a host of sophisticated
features such as matrix, center-weight and spot metering, professional-grade
five-area auto-focus and adjustable white balance, all within a palm-sized
form factor. A range of converter lenses is available to allow this camera
to develop into a partner that will support the photographic ambitions
of the user, and the optional remote control cord and monitor hood further
extend the flexibility of this new addition to the Coolpix family.
Ready for anything, the Coolpix 885 takes compact digital photography
to a new level of sophistication in a remarkable combination of quality,
convenience and ease of use.
Both models offer extended battery life and are supplied with a rechargeable
battery and charger for environmentally friendly operation. The software
package includes Nikon View for convenient image transfer from camera
or Compact flash card to the computer and Fotostation Easy for image management
and one-button upload to Nikon's free on-line European photo community,
www.nikonfotoshare.com.
We do of course have a full
review of the Nikon Coolpix 775 (which was announced to the rest
of the world back in
April). We also have a pre-production Coolpix 885 in-house and hope
to be starting a review on our return from IFA 2001 in Berlin.
