Cruising over to Rob's website I noticed he's published a PDF "cheat sheet" of custom settings for the Nikon D1, which when printed can be cut and stuck to the LCD cover for quick reference to those otherwise indecipherable numerical settings.

"There are 31 Custom Settings in all; I've selected the top 10 and laid them out in a downloadable PDF cheat sheet. Feel free to print, trim and attach the cheat sheet to your D1's LCD screen cover. Note that a great inkjet or laser printer will almost certainly be required to render the teeny type legibly. "
