That's a true issue with Sony's peaking (but not only Sony) IMO, I do hope they notice this as a limitation and decide to improve on it.
The difference is very noticeable between Sony's peaking...

I agree with you if we're talking about static subjects, the G5 EVF is perfectly fine for those, focus "pops" very clearly even without peaking. That said, peaking is very helpful for moving...
-
Maybe you're right, maybe dual axis peaking like Olympus is a problem for video, Pentax also doesn't show peaking while recording video. Probably this type of peaking it's too hungry for most...
-
It would be great if it worked like that. But so far it doesn't.
Peaking detects contrast, and cheeks, foreahead, etc (human skin in this case) doesn't have enough texture to have noticeable...
-
I can confirm this is possible, I've done one myself for a telescope.
Used the gears and electronics from a broken kit lens, and a few machined parts for a new glass element.
I worked well, the AF...

That's a good question, but I don't think anyone is able to answer it at this point, only olympus technicians.
But speculating a bit....
If the current lenses doesn't work well with PDAF that also...

I don't have a nex, but on my A65 peaking works fine in magnified view.
Peaking is a bit less noticeable in magnified view, if contrast is too low, or if you're not completely steady sometimes it...

Sony does. I don't know about fuji though. BTW here's a video of fujis peaking:
http://petapixel.com/2013/01/09/a-demonstration-of-fujifilms-new-focus-peaking-feature/
It's easily seen...
-
Why? I can't see it being any different than sony's, as it detects vertical lines only, just like sony. And as far as we know so far there's no adjustments at all, only on/off.
So far I can't see...

A 300 F4 would be very interesting...that and a dedicated TC.
-
Indeed, much better actually.
But I'm a bit disappointed with how peeking seems to work. It seems to detect only vertical lines like sony does, I was hoping it worked like fuji or pentax and...

For me it's not a bad idea at all. I'd love to see an E mount with the same size as a regular DSLR, lots of buttons, good grip, etc.
Together with the NEX bodies, it would be the perfect system,...

Here's a video showing G6's peaking at work:

I think Panasonic itself can also be blamed for it, they announce the camera but they didn't give much attention to peaking in the announcement. So, many people didn't even notice the G6 has...
-
Didn't sony gave nex3 and 5 users focus peaking with a firmware upgrade? That was more than a tweak, it's a feature many would gladly pay for a new camera to...
-
Hey Danny,
I've also seen what people call focus peaking on olympus. The view with the filter applied looks like a cartoonish effect or something like that, I guess it can help with focussing but...

I'm hoping focus peaking will eventually come to m4/3. If it comes in the G6, I would buy it in a heart beat.
I had a G5 witch I liked very much, but I mostly only use MF lenses so I sold it for a...

Must haves:
- Focus peaking
- IBIS
- High quality EVF
These are what got me shooting Sony, and have to say I doubt I get back to a camera without any of these...
-
Yes, that appears to be true to me too. That's also probably why it has only vertical detection, as far as I'm aware CDAF also only works with vertical features.Like you said, peaking...

Try rotating the camera from horizontal to vertical, when pointing at a perched bird. You'll see peaking varying from the birds vertical features (feather detail, wings, etc) to it's horizontal...
