I don't know of a way to do this. When a stack is closed, any ratings applied to the top image affect only that image. To star all the images in a stack, you must open the stack, select the images...

You're mistaken. Both Aperture and Lightroom give you the option of storing masters inside or outside the library/catalog file. In Aperture, this is called managed vs. referenced. You can choose...

Absolutely. That's why I have a GX1 and a G3. With the zooms, I generally carry only one body at a time. If I were prime-centric, I'd carry both bodies with, say, a 20mm & 45mm.

I travelled in Rajasthan for 7 weeks about 15 years ago. Brought both 67 and 35mm systems and 100 rolls of film. So I don' wanna hear no whining about a 14-150 being heavy;-)
Really, I'd take the...

Apple's Aperture has lots of options for managing RAW+JPEG and stacked images. Not sure how your specific workflow would work, as I only shoot RAW. Aperture runs on Mac OS X and costs $80.

In another cost-saving move, the Sun-Times' entire janitorial staff was let go, and the C suite will receive training in germ abatement, spill recovery, and dust relocation using iMops. Oops,...

Here's a silver lining. All those silver-spoon photo school interns who've been depressing professional photojournalists' wages by working for free at newspapers for years will realize that there's...

In my 12+ years of working with scores of photogs and assistants in NYC, I've heard of only one instance in which a photog tried to hold an assistant liable for lost gear, and everyone I knew...

If you've really gotta have RAID 5. I think having multiple backup is more important than RAID 5 and makes it unnecessary. I have a 4TB LaCie 2big TB backed up to a 4TB LaCie 2big USB 3.0.
I should...

Aperture entirely replaces DPP and EOS Utility in my workflow. There are some functions that are not reproduced, such as DPP's automatic dust removal and EOS Utility's remote control of a tethered...

I'd open the old library (on the external drive) and "relocate" the masters to a folder (or nested folders - one per project) on the external drive. Then, open the newer library (on the laptop) and...

I posted an article on my blog about my experience with Panasonic DMC-LX5 & LX7 cameras. The LX7 isn't a shirt-pocket camera, but it'll fit in a coat pocket or in a belt...

If you're using a Mac, Aperture for OS X is only $80. It has some strengths LR lacks and vice versa. On balance, they're about even. I prefer Aperture's interface and organizing tools. I run my...

You're confusing brightness with color temperature. 6000K is the latter.
Much better not to adjust for ambient light and instead keep the ambient light constant and on the dim side. That way, you...

How big do you need to print? Unless you're going 20" x 30" or bigger or you need to shoot handheld in very dim conditions, you'll never see the difference between MFT and APS-C, at least not in a...

It's well worth watching the thorough video tutorials on the Topaz site. They're very informative and well produced. DeNoise works well enough on default, but really gets amazing if you disable NR...

If you're talking about plugins made to work with Adobe products and not plugins made by Adobe (does Adobe make plugins?), then you might be happy to know that some developers make multi-platform...
