One would imagine that Nikon's AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm is any better... in fact the Canon edges ahead in centre & corner sharpness...

If you mean that miniscule high ISO advantage actually amounts to "trouncing" ... then obviously our definitions deviate...

This nagging perception that Canon sensors are in anyway inferior to their Sony / Nikon counterparts exists only in theory... and is primarily propagated by DXO...

I bet the Fujifilm X-Pro 1 would have achieved the best overall scores... thats probably the reason why DXO never got around to actually reviewing that particular camera...

Considering the D800's photosites are eminently larger than those from the D5200... it really doesn't speak very highly of the D800's overall noise performance...

The D5200 is a good noise...

If people are considering a quality point & shoot camera they should look no further than the Canon Elph 330 HS... small and extremely pocketable... with a great 10x lens... pretty much the same...

Fuji point & shoot camera's are no good... larger than average sensor, "EXR" etc... they still can't deliver on image quality...

Stick with Canon or Panasonic if quality matters...

In tems of high ISO performance the D600 files look flat... whichever way you look at it... trying in vain to find an equilibrium between noise suppression and detail retention...

Hmm... i beg to differ... The D600 only looks to maintain D4 noise levels until around 6400 after which image degradation sets in...

The 6D noise levels are on par with the D4 and fractionally ...

Why do people have to resort to relying on DXO's unsubstantiated results in order to justify Nikon being ever so slightly "superior" to the competition...

The Canon 6D is clearly the better...

Oh god... Panasonic are no good whatsoever when it comes to controlling noise from ISO 800 onwards on their compact camera range... and now they go and up the ante with 16 & 18 MP small sensors......

The D5200 sensor will in all probability have the same RAW & JPEG image characteristics as the D3200... visavi dynamic range & high ISO... give or take a little here and there...

In all honesty if the Panasonic FZ200 finds a place on this list... the Canon SX50 HS definitely deserves a spot here too... Its JPEG & RAW IQ is unparalleled for a small sensored super-zoom...

The G15's image quality is simply incredible... An absolutely stellar high ISO performer...

Totally kills the P7700 for sheer IQ ... RAW write times... focussing... f2.8 at max zoom... and from...

Your reasoning applies to every camera manufacturer out there without exception... No camera regardless of sensor size looks identical at ISO 100 & 3200 respectively...

One would imagine your beloved D600 looks fantasic in every sample image... There's oodles of NR at work... only problem is its not as good as 6D's high ISO capabilities...

I just wonder whether...

D600 IQ is good... but definitely not off the charts... 5D III renders betters overall details & colour saturation as compared to the Nikon...

Only area where the D600 is better is in shadow...

Keep in mind that the 18 MP sensor is also relatively older than the 16 MP chip from Sony...

Having said that... when Canon introduced the 18 MP 7D all those years ago, it was state of the art......
