Probably because WiFi is extremely widespread, and NFC is extremely rare. Very few Smartphones support it. NFC also is 400-450 kb/s, where-as WiFi can send a 10 megapixel picture in seconds....

I don't see it as a trap. You can buy a body with a 14-42 kit lens for $500 (e-pm1) or $600 (e-pl3). Or you can spend more and go e-p3 or om-d. While they are these expensive primes, it's not like...

I bet a 300mm f/2.8 would be even bigger. Come on, it's a 150mm f/1.8 lens. It's going to be bigger than the 14-42 kit zoom.
