The sensor on the Mark III does better then the one used on the Mark II. It's not resolution that counts most (with a decent 20M resolution you probably have what is needed ...)

The 7D is ageing too. Be prepared for a successor with pimped specs...

I don't think that you get out a camera like that. I suppose Canon felt that they needed to offer a replacement for the 5D Mark II, as the Mark III has a price premium attached!
