Depends on how you define "excellence".

I bought his D800 book but it seemed to have a lot of filler IMO.It seems aimed at the newbie to digital photography rather than someone with a couple of years under his/her belt.
I would not...

The fact that he changed his recommendation based on apparently new evidence makes me wonder how much research he did before he wrote the manual...Just my opinion of course but I'm not happy about...
-
Probably because people who buy from BH most likely know what they are doing whereas those who buy from Amazon aren't as competent so they blame the camera for their own mistakes.
-
Yes he should. If he had dis-recommended the D800 before I bought his book, I would not have bought it.Certainly he has a right to make money, but how much faith can we have in the information...
-
Dunno if that makes any sense. I would think you'd want to use a pod and a more manageable ISO if you wanted any quality cityscapes

Sorry Bright Boy, no cigar. I make my living shooting broadcast news with a "real" video camera and I brought the D800 for it's video capabilities. You simply don't have a clue as to what you're...

And who exactly are you to judge? Show your creds before starting a rant like this. Reads like a troll to me.

The D800 would be perfectly fine for your project but not for you. Dslrs really take a very skilled hand to get that beautiful video they are capable of.

You know, I tried 720 for the first time on my D800 and I sorta felt that way too, but I didn't use it in a project so can't really comment on how it compares.

I've always used SD cards in my D7000 (no choice) and now using SD in D800 after reading that article with zero problems. And I work we run SonyXD cams shooting high def and use SD cards in an...
-
You can do it but you don't want to do it. SD card is much better for video according to Thom Hogan.
-
I used to believe there was a problem with some cameras but now I'm pretty much convinced most of the "issues" are the result of hysteria.

If you believe all the hysteria.

Canon or Nikon the basics are the same.
For a so-called "film look" shoot at 24fps at 1/50 shutter speed 1080P
For a "news video" look use 30fps at 1/60 shutter speed. at 1080pUse manual only,...

What you are doing wrong is trying to use auto focus for video.People who make their living with video don't use auto anything when it comes to video for obvious reasons.Dslr video is a great tool...
