Jim Evidon: Re.: Fresh paint on obsolete targets.
Bureaucracy, like nature, has certain immutable rules. One of those rules is that a bureaucracy, once created, can never be destroyed. Another rule is that a bureaucracy's budget, one created can be increased, but never be diminished.

As a result, there is, no doubt, a federal "Department of Resolution Test Chart Maintenance" which dutifully fulfills its destined mission and regularly repaints
and/or refurbishes these targets. It is, no doubt, manned and/or womaned by dedicated servants of the citizenry numbering in the hundreds to carry out its mission and its destiny. Said task force, speculatively, is primarily charged with records keeping, producing and updating mil specs for the specific paint required together with one painter and staff.

Wheres the guy to mow the grass but!

On Fujifilm announces WiFi-enabled F900EXR with EXR-CMOS II news story (41 comments in total)

Ok dpreview, it seems every month now we have the "world's fastest AF*" on each new camera launched. Can we get some empirical evidence, some analytical tests some good ol dpreview know how to ensure us it is actually the world fastest, be great to include in some sort of test in reviews other than, it appears faster than the previous model...or am I just the "world's fastest person*" to recognise this? I know its hard to get an apple v apple test but at least it be an understanding more than what we have today.

Make Believe: Where is dpreview getting this wrong information from? The camera can shoot at 10fps not 6fps LOL

A77 only shoots for about 1.2 secs at high speed then you wait for it to write to card for about 30secs. A99 looks more useful if it can shoot at 6fps for say 50 shots like a Nikon or Canon.

jwkphoto: The shape of the a99 reminds me of my 20 year old Maxxum 9xi. I loved that camera and it was a pleasure to handle and use. But there seems to be one thing missing. I've looked at the Sony Store and read two reviews and I see no mention of Super Steady Shot! Sony has removed it from the a99! Somebody, please tell me it ain't so!

I'm sorry but whoever said the A77 can shoot at 10+ fps is joking. It shoots at 12fps for about 1.2 seconds then you wait for half a minute while it writes to card! I hope the A99 is shooting at 6fps continuously as do Nikon and Canon, much more useful than the A77 speed. You can't even shoot the A77 a 3fps continually! I fine 3fps is all you need for portrait photography and it is really embarrassing when you have to tell your subject, oh hang on a sec i'm just waiting for my camera to be ready again!

T2.9 is that like F1.4 or f2.8 or f4, does anyone have a chart for comparing T stop to F stop?

photogalleryonline: Minolta made a great 400mm f4.5 for about $6k, i picked one up for $2.8K from a japan dealer new once Konica bought Minolta out and they were stuck with stock. It is a fantastically sharp len with simply amazing colour rendition. I do hope Sony redo this lens with SSM, but I am now terrified that once they slap a Sony badge on it they'll want $10K for it.

The price of this 500 f4 is simply crazy! Oh and made to order, what planet do they live on?? ....From a very dissatisfied A77 customer.

Sorry AUD, was $6,000 AUD dollars back in the day new. cheers.

With spec like this, you have to ask yourself why we spend $2,000 + on fancier Nikon bodies. Hey if this gets dust and moisture in it, just throw it away and buy another one!

On Wi-Fi and Samsung's 'Smart Camera Ecosystem' article (42 comments in total)

I think Samsung should be commended for making their entire range wifi friendly. I really like the idea of getting home after a shoot and not having to dick around with connecting cables and downloading shots. As long as your wifi router, computer or PS3, and camera are turned on, the camera will back itself up to your hard drive. This is what I have been waiting for. Now does anybody know if the Nikon D800 can do this?

On Dan Chung asks Canon about EOS-1D C at 4K launch news story (88 comments in total)

Imagine the day when you spend your $1000k on a DSLR and you think nothing of shooting 4k video cause your ipad, iphone and TV etc plays 4k native, i'm tipping its only 4/5 years away.......I am just waiting for the day that all devises can beam to a screen or hd drive or cloud without all the current d$cking around of wifi, dnla, ip, wep and cable rubbish we have to deal with now. I mean can't apple make the bloody ipad suck the photos off my camera without me having to plug in an adaptor, then wait for about an hour, just to view the pics on its nice screen....mmm.... or worse still, put em on your computer, then put em on your goflex wifi hd drive, then stream them to your ipad....mmmmm, and when is wifi dslr native coming so i don't have to buy another bloody adaptor.....sorry gripes for today finished. Yes beautiful 4k Canon cameras...I wonder if Nikon is planning a similar step into Cinema Production, I'm sure you could do something with 36 million pixels other than fill my HD!

photogalleryonline: i find it extremely funny to read these posts where people say "i am going to sell my Canon gear to buy a Nikon" or "I am gonna hang on to my Canon 5dmkII and wait for the MkIII" As if you would! When the 5D came out it was revolutionary, now the D800 has the title, we had to wait 3.5 years, i'm sure Canon won't make you wait as long, for $3k the D800 is a bargain in anyones language!

Your either a Canon or a Nikon person, same as it used to be, ie you shot fuji Velvia 50 or Kodachrome 64, don't change, just wait!!

This past 12 months has been a revolutionary and technological leap year for cameras, ie Sony A77, D4, D800, EOS1DX, Fuji X1Pro!

At the rate we are going, will there be anything new at Photokina this year?? I am betting there will be new Canon and Nikon Full Frame 12-16mp plastic cameras for D7000, EOS7D prices, and yes cheaper than a D400 DX Flagship.

I hope to have my new D800 and D400 by then though.....

I share your passion, there is some nice glass in the leica stable, but $5k a go is astronomical. What do you think about using the Fuji XPro 1 with a M adaptor, I am very impressed with this camera and its dual optical rangefinder glass finder, plus then the ability to have Electronic Viewfinder as well for other lens. If they make an AFS compatible Nikon mount I may consider buying one, as it is still 25% price of the lovely M9.

Anyone have any details on burst depth at full frame raw and raw + jpeg, if it shoots 4ps for 1.5 sec and then writes for 15 sec like the stupid Sony A77 does at just 3ps then we have a problem, but knowing Nikon i am sure this will be good for 30 shots a 4 fps at least
