On Winter in Texas in the January Sky challenge (4 comments in total)

Believe or not, I actually had to desaturate the red and orange a bit to get more cloud detail. It was a very colorful evening. Thanks for the nice words...

On Meteor Shower in Yellowstone in the Night Sky challenge (2 comments in total)

Yes, it was the Perseids. There really wasn't much to this. It is one shot, and Old Faithful is being lit by some inconsiderate tourist who sat in a nearby parking lot with his high beam headlights on the geyser while he sat in his truck. I guess it worked out okay. The Milky Way just happened to be nearly vertical at that time of night, and a very bright meteor streaked by during one of my exposures. So a little planning and some good luck all came together for one pretty good image...

mdcromer: Lovely picture!

I have one in winter of this exact spot along the creek:

That area is certainly beautiful at every time of year...

Thank you all for your comments. As nice as some of these photos turned out, just being there was even better. Autumn in the Appalachians is a truly awesome experience...

tecnoworld: Gorgeous! Did you use a polarizer for the sky?

Yes, there was a circular polarizer on the lens. Papa, you are incorrect about the rainbow. In many cases, a polarizer enhances the rainbow. The polarizer wasn't set for maximum for the sky, it was set for maximum enhancement of the rainbow. The sky is a little dark because this shot was fairly late in the afternoon.

On Second Sunset in the Sunset in the beach V challenge (9 comments in total)

Thanks for all the nice comments. Second Beach is a wonderful spot and the hardest part was picking which incredible view would be best. There was no HDR used. A Grad ND filter and a some shadow lightening in Lightroom was all that was needed. I'm glad I picked this location...

Thank you all. It was definitely the nicest color I've seen there after several attempts. Sometimes it's nice to be lucky :)

On Stormy Day at the Wave in the My best picture this week challenge (2 comments in total)

I actually failed to set the time and date on my camera as I only received it a few days before leaving on my trip. As soon as I noticed the incorrect info, I rectified the situation. I understand the confusion, but not necessarily the judgmentalness :(

I've never had any problems there. You pay a fee and they give you a permit to hang off your backpack. Everything about the place is wonderful and I would totally recommend that everyone tries to get there if they have a chance...

On Red Sand Desert in the Desert challenge (2 comments in total)

Living in Southern California, I have spent a lot of time in the desert. But there is a magic in this particular area of Arizona/Utah that I haven't found anywhere else. Every step is just spectacular. I can't wait for winter so I can get back and spend more time up there...
