yes, I do think you can use noise for effect. But like everything, it has to be used well and judiciously, or the snap won't transcend what you can do in Photoshop "Add noise wizerd" in under 10...

Well, lol. The Q can do a lot.  I think the Q7 does have more DR, but also the color sensitivity/extra sharpness. Thanks for the look. :-)

Actually they do beat Canon at high ISO. A K-5 easily beats the Canon at high ISO, and so did the D7000 (same K-5 sensor).

It's not relevant because saying "we finally match current worst APS-C"...
