I assume this is a 100% crop. Some look like they could be oil but the solid ones look like dirt or dust. Oil usually doesn't look solid black. In any case, if you are unhappy you should be able to...

Better in what way? I have the 24-85 VR and tried the 24-120 f4. With my example the 24-85 was sharper in the corners than the 24-120 everywhere except at 24mm. Both were about the same sharpness...

It would help to show an example.

This is very true, but if you look at the lens rental postings, they also stated that the problem got much better over time. I'm sure some units have no issue and some are worse (such as yours)....

Wow, advice from a newbie.
The fact is complaining here isn't going to fix anything. And if you read my later posts you would see I agree with him on his issues. Someone with an issue needs to get...

This is normal, depending on your target. If you want the same point everytime, you need to use single AF point and select which point to use.

What do you mean by it doesn't recognize? I updated on a Mac and it's pretty easy:
Format card on camera.
Insert card on Mac and copy the .bin file inside the DMG image into the SD card (right at...

Actually, I do agree with you. If mine was that bad, I would do something about it (return, repair, or sell). I do wish you good luck in resolving it.

Why you don't either send your D600 to Nikon to fix or sell it rather than prowl these forums to complain about it is beyond me. If you don't want to do either, well that's your choice but just...

If you think Canon gear doesn't have the exact same AF fine tune issues you will be sadly mistaken. I had a Canon 1D Mark III and the focusing on that was a disaster. If a camera has AF fine tune...

What? The D600 feels like a D90? The D7100 and D600 "interface" are almost the same. I'd take the D600 (and I did) anyway.

There is nothing wrong with any of these cameras. You are in AF-S? Then after the initial focus, unless you release the shutter button, the camera will take the picture even if you move the camera...

My local pro camera shop only allows refund/exchanges for 15 days. Another local camera chain allows refunds 7 days, exchanges 30 days. So my experience is that most don't allow 30 days for refunds.

Absolutely correct. No mechanical parts have this precision. Even the sensor itself is manufactured at a process level not at this precision (bleeding edge semiconductors typically use 28 nanometer...

I agree there is a problem. However based on companies I've worked at I can see how it could be missed. That's not a excuse, just I think it more a case of incompetence or lack of attention rather...

I think that is an overly negative assumption. If you assume it's an assembly problem (as opposed to design defect) I can easily see this being missed. You would need to pull the samples, do lots...

Very nice pictures! Hopefully the sun will come out where I am someday so I can take some more.

I agree. That was one of my motivations in getting the D600 was to be able to get "correct" lens choices without having to spend $3000 on a D800. So far I'm very happy with the D600, the 24-85, and...

I had a D7000 before and while it's a good camera I was never fully satisfied with the focusing. Always needing to do AF fine tune and then sometimes still not getting images in correct focus...
