In my opinion, the clutch is very old tech and has nothing to do with the level type of a lens, be it low, medium or ¨premium¨. Value of a lens (not taking the price into account) are such tangible...

Isn´t it because it depends on address of buyer, unknown up front, so there cannot be a quote including it? In Europe, we have variable taxes too, but the place of purchase rules when in the EU....

No, it´s not. US price quotes do not include sales tax, that´s added on the bill when you purchase. On average 10% I´m told.
