We're leaving wedding photography at the end of this year. We're probably going to sell all our D700s, primes, and flashes and pick up either a D3200 and 35/1.8 or an x100s. I've always preferred a...

We're getting out of wedding photography after this season. I'm either going to switch to a D3000, D3200, or D5100 with a 35/1.8, or an x100s. The rest of our gear (D700s, primes, etc) will be...

I like your idea of doubling your prices, but again, reaching the clientele is the challenge, it seems.
-
You're pretty much capturing our thoughts on the market direction. We're close to Chicago, and there are so many folks out there offering $500 for all day photography deals that it's hard to...

So far, we've only booked half as many this year as we did last year. We raised our prices some and have made almost as much this year as we did last year, but it's a bit disconcerting to have so...

We see lots of these kinds of ads in our area. It's rarely the same folks from one year to the next, but yes, they lower price expectations. We're not saying we've never shot a super-cheap wedding....

We're shooting close to a big city but aren't finding the high-paying clients. It's rough out there right now.

This seems like a good assessment of today's field. This year, almost all of the wedding packages we've booked have been below 2k, and we're still having trouble drawing clients in.

Mmm, same here. The trick is to find the folks who'll pay you to make a lot for those hours.

We're really limited; we choose under 10 per year. I can't see us doing 20 unless we find ourselves overstocked with awesome couples.
-
This is good advice here.

Just spent a couple of hours reading this thread top to bottom. Interesting stuff. It's hard out there right now.

Got to agree with this...odd thread.

We shoot all of our weddings with a pair of D700s and three prime lenses. Thoroughly satisfied.

This thread went in an interesting direction. And add us to the list of Americans who think we could learn a lot from other countries (especially with respect to universal healthcare and paid...

We're working to make it easier on ourselves too. Last year, we included albums with some of our packages...big mistake. This year, they have to buy them separately. We don't sell any this way, but...

We booked six last year. So far this year, we're at three. It's hard out there right now, but we're going to keep going as long as we can. Our goal per year is ten.

We wouldn't buy one new, but used, sure, if we shot Canon. We shoot Nikon so we bought a pair of D700s instead for weddings.

About half of our wedding work is done with the 50/1.8D on one of our D700s. When you shoot for a living, you use the cheapest gear that gets the job done.
