Outstanding colors and the tilt works for me in this shot. I usually am put off by a lot of angled shots but this is goes with the shot. Congratulations.
Love the intensity, tones, and mystery this photo evokes.
Photo is not a composite, shadow of lower dog out of frame. Sun very low as was shot early in the morning. I think I have an details of the shot posted in Jan. Maureen Robinson
Honest folks, this is how the shot is set up. We have a two story boat house, dogs leave from lower deck. Early in the morning (when the water is still, sun is low), dogs combed and lovely, positioned on lower run, I go up stairs lean out and shoot down. I am a dog trainer by profession; I don't have time for as much photoshop as this would take. The boathouse deck is just out of the photo behind the golden. The hard part of the shot is you only get one chance, then the dogs are wet and it is a long wait for the water to become glass again. Plus the dogs must be trained to stay with you out of sight, and then run fast and jump on command.
Should you doubt it, feel free to email me direct and I can supply you shots from all angles, (below the dogs if very interesting) as well as other shots from different times of the day showing more shadows, etc.
No one could have been more shocked than I to see the photo placed among such outstanding photographs. I was not even aware of the challenge of the challenges and only became aware when dpreview contacted me. Boy, it made my day! Sorry that some doubt the authenticity, but, that is not my problem. I did not photoshop the reflection of the first dog, it is what the camera captured. The hard part of the photo is that you get only one chance to get a photo with dry fur. You can take photos of wet dogs till the cows come home, but if you want dry, gotta get it right the first time. It was early morning light from the east. I don't see how you think shadow does not match the dog.
this got my vote! I like the angle shot. Very nice photo.
I agree, the photo does not fit the category. I had just found the new forum and added the photo an the spur of the moment. At the time of entry, I though it did not fit, but wanted to submit something. I was shocked to learn it had won. *Shouldn't fitting the category weigh heavy with your vote? * As far as the second shadow missing, it was out of the frame, I did not remove it. I call this photo my vampire dog. Thanks for the votes, it was a pleasant surprise.
