Buzz Lightyear: It must be a difficult job to host Dpreview challenges with so many volatile participants. While I sympathize with Vqueen's position, I was also not too happy to have been more than once the recipient of her decision to disqualify my entries for reasons that I felt were arbitrary and inconsistently applied to other similar entries. While it's convenient to say: "can't we all just get along, and have fun", I think we have a right as participants to question the privilege given to any host to continue in that role when they begin to show a pattern of not being able to be consistent, timely and fair in managing their challenges. To her credit, Vqueen has always been polite and civil in her communications with me - and I hope I to her - but I also do not want some of the issues raised here to just be passed as "water under the bridge", if in fact, there is a problem which needs addressing. I hope she will take this feedback to heart and make some adjustments to benefit everyone concerned.
About all I know of previous challenges from this host is that the vast majority were successful and didn't show any sign of controversy. So far as this one I for one see a mirror in every entry here and can't imagine how anyone can call a building a mirror.
Well done, 24hrexposure.
Exceptional challenge Ro13. Thank you and thanks to all who contributed such amazing photos.
RuthC: Do you want the one in Houston, or Galveston, or Austin or Lubbock or.... :-)
p3142, it is probably best if it is not too restrictive. The House in sequin was pretty popular too and it was not too long ago that Fort Worth was not too far removed from wild west days. And Galveston was a story in itself. It is a shame we did not have cell phone cameras back then.
cmantx: Not sure if photographing the governors mansion is allowed.
cmantx, if the house is still there you could drive down and get a photo of the real thing. That should earn extra stars during the voting. I think a B&W would be best.
You are right. You are not a native Texan. Damn Yankees, anyway. Like
Ruth that was the famous "Chicken Ranch" in LaGrange, which is between the U of Texas and Texas A&M. I visited it on occasion when we were out honky-tonking and the guys wanted to stop by. Of course I waited in the lounge and visited with the ladies of the House. They usually even bought me a beer. A photo of a large old frame farm house should qualify.
RuthC: These Texas Challenges, with their enthusiastic host, really encourage me to go visit the state..... NOT!Actually, I've been there many years ago, but in the Box Brownie era. Not sure I could fudge the capture date.... :-)
Ruth, that's almost back in the days when Texas was still the wild west.
jetals: 15 entries per user!!!!!!!4 entrants could fill the challenge.
kw5kw - didn't you host a similar challenge recently, with a similar heavy restriction on capture date? I recall the challenge was a remarkable flop.http://www.dpreview.com/challenges/Challenge.aspx?ID=8211&JumpToComment=2986009541
Wildbegonia, I think the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex is fairly unique so far as photo ops go. Of course it's no NYC. If cities arn't your thing then Austin is the gateway to the beautiful Hill Country, but be sure to take advantage ot it's many photo ops before getting out into the country.
l_objectif: A very nice one!
Thank you Louis.
cyber101: Please check on tomato box for the judging because i feel like the photo should be disqualify but i'll let you decide
You could report the suspicious voting to Simon Joinson. He could give the voter a chance to defend himself and then decide the voter 's fate. Simon did say,"For now, keep reporting them to me, and I'll keep killing their accounts."
You got a 4.5 from me.
Wow! Well deserved win.
CG33: This picture was my favorite. Congratulations.
Thank you CG. I appreciate your comment.
This isbthe one that caught my attention. Well done.
Deleted pending purge: Thanks, all! Some extraordinary works in this one.Congrats to the Winners!
Exceptional challenge. There are many seriously good photos here, but why did this challenge receive so many low votes and why were the other four challenges that finished today spared?
Wildbegonia: Wow! Do these images comply with DP decorum rules? ménage a trois, bunga bunga parties and more...
What's a bunga bunga party? On 2nd thought, nevermind, I will look it up.
