cashewNut: I am actually thinking of buying the Canon T5i or the Nikon D5200 but now the Canon SL1 is now making think twice because of the its size. The Canon SL1 is the "shrunken head" version of the Canon T5i- same sensor and engine. The rest of the features found in the T5i is only secondary. A big sensor in a small body is like Dolly Parton singing the country hits without strain. Great camera.

I used to have the Canon 350D/XT and I gave it to my son. But the
Canon SL1 is smaller: 117x91x69mm while the 350D is 127x94x64mm. I hope the Canon SL1 matches the T5i's video performance.

On Pentax offers K-30 in a variety of colors and finishes news story (118 comments in total)

This camera will sell thousands of units if it came in polka dot color. The other thing is it does not have a dedicated video button.

On Nikon D5200 added to our studio comparison database news story (186 comments in total)

I am choosing between the D5200 and the D7000. In the comparison, I find the D5200 has better image quality and better color than the D7000. Select mickey mouse in the picture and you can see that the red is brighter and the black color
much darker. The left side of my brain is in agreement with the right side of my brain that the D5200 is the right camera to pick aside from the smaller size compared to the D7000 as soon as I get my tax refund, that is.

On CP+ 2013: Casio Interview article (41 comments in total)

Casio can easily excel in the micro 4/3 arena but somehow decided to make a sudden Left turn against it. They already have the technology to rebuild their reputation. I used to have the Casio Z1080 and the camera offered 100 % satisfaction in terms of speed, sharpness and clarity in still and video. The Casio FH100 was judged best of the bunch category beating Panasonic ZS5, Sony H55, Fuji F80, Nikon S8000 and Canon Sx210 in a group comparison. Smartphones and micro4/3 cameras are two pronged attack on Casio's territory. In reality, Casio is becoming two steps behind of its camera rivals.

cashewNut: I assemble my own computer and most of the parts are made from Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore, and Philippines etc. My Samsung plasma tvs are made in Mexico. I try my best to avoid made in China products. You have no idea how many floor standing electric fans that still look new but don't work at all that we have in the basement. I installed a made in China Haier air-conditioner and the same story. No more for me. Enough bad experience with made in China products. Olympus Om-D is not cheap. I get more value with Nikon D7000. Just my opinion.

Nikon D7000 is made in Thailand. That is problem with Haeir AC I installed. 12,000 BTU and does not cool the room so you turn it up so high and the noise goes up too. You are awake and cannot watch your tv because of the noise. The other thing that I did not want to mention because it is not related to photography is my dog
died of kidney failure because of dog snacks made in China.

I don't mind Thailand. Don't buy tires made from China. Lots of death reported because of the quality of the product.

On CP+ 2013 - Micro Four Thirds lenses from Tamron and Olympus news story (113 comments in total)

cashewNut: I am now ready to join the OM-D brigade. I got the money but I couldn't decide on what lens to use. This Tamron 14-150mm lens is very promising. If the price is right and the lens is not made in China, then I am in.

OM-D is made in China? Thanks for telling me. I changed my mind then. I bought a Minolta camera before and I did not realize it was made in China. We spent a week in Cancun, Mexico and ended up using a disposal camera. My brother bought a Canon dslr in HongKong but did not suspect it was made in China and less than 6 months it wouldn't focus right. The repair center in Chicago said it could not be fixed because the parts are different in Asia. Enough aggravation for me.
