shutterbud: The last gasp from a once-great manufacturer. This model admits that Canon is so far behind the times that they have to give you everything they have to make the purchase of their latest APS-C camera even worthwile.
Compare a D700 to an A7R.
Then compare a 7D to this.
It really is quite sad.

Bud,

It's a matter of preference, Canon has their advantage! I used to be hardcore Nikon fan, had 2 D700s, D90, D7000, D5100, D80, D50, various glass. Once i tried Canon 5D, i kept coming back to canon, even realizing their shortcomings. Many photographers, dont care for gimmicky stuff alike million fps, unlimited dynamic range and uber perfect focusing. What draws me back to Canon are the colors, and super smooth color gradation. Professionals may care more, but most photographers today aren't pros, they aren't even semi-pros. I accept the margin or focusing error on my Canon, so be honest i"ve learned to avoid focusing errors, yes it isn't as good as nikons, but not bad at all, if you know what you're doing.

On Apple iPhone 6 Plus camera review post (190 comments in total)

I switched from Lumia 1520, which I bought because of the camera to iphone 6 and I can safely say that the camera is way better, in all aspects of shooting. First of all the focusing, it's day and night, color and clarity. 1520 which supposed to have the tops quality cam, only took decent pictures during perfect conditions and focusing was slow as molasses. I would take a good 8mp cam over 20 any day, especially on a phone. Sick of MP race!

CBuff: A decade ago, Nikon had the best bodies, and Canon the best sensors (CMOS, full frame...). How things have changed!! I still love my canon optics, but since i am not an action shooter, i am still waiting. Maybe PMA.

I've been a Nikon guy since the beginning, loved it to death. Then i decided to open up and try other brands. Did Fuji S5Pro, Canon 5D, Rebel. Owned Nikon D50, D80, D700, D600 and everything i switched back and forth between D700 and 5D. Yes Nikon is ISO king, they have unsurpassed Focus system and DR, but Canon has the sexiest smooth color gradation that Nikon still hasn't really matched. Right now I have CAnon 5D and Nikon D5100 and 5D does most of the work.

rsf3127: Always wanted to like these Fuji but stopped when looking at the RAW images. They are not up to the same level of recent sensors by other manufacturers at all.
I always keep coming back to my NEX/A7. Much better value and versatility.

Completely agreed. I remmeber i bought S5 Pro and it was mostly a lot of wasted time editing those raw files and they had color casts and just not smooth files at all. Fuji is mostly way overrated.

The solution here is simple, NEVER admit someone else took your photo! That's an advice for the future :))

samfan: In addition to my previous posts, one more - it shows how photographers are often equipment-centric when they think they own a photo just because it was taken with their equipment.

Sorry, but if a a 5-year old or a monkey grabs your $50000 preciously set up Hasselblad system and they proceed to take the most amazing photo ever, it's not your photo. Sucks to be beaten by a 5-year old or even a monkey but that's how life is.

Next time carry a disposable or a cellphone so you won't be so bummed that someone takes a great image while you spend all the money.

Peter62: Sorry, but the Galaxy S4 is BETTER!

Look for yourself at the studio scene image comparison, low light, then look at the coloured, concentric cirlcles !

Another reason not to buy the S5!

Peter, I dont see how iPhone is better. I hate Samsung phones, but the camera works pretty well, not worse than iPhone for sure. I use Lumia 1520 right now and it's way over hyped, it only takes good photos under perfect conditions.

My Nikon D600 will be forever free to clean.

Lifetime cleaning warranty, how can't I be happy? :-)

well, you wont have your camera for weeks at the time, thats what not to be happy about. 5D is very easy to clean. ;)

There's a saying, cheap pays twice. They used the cheap a$$ labor and thats what they got in return!

Petroglyph: Sony is running with the FE mount cams! They'll release the 16-35 OSS and fast prime soon I bet. Esp. since Canon is releasing theirs (16-35) with identical stats. They're feeling a little competition perhaps?

Alex, you're being a bit harsh, A7 is certainly a good innovative camera, it will be remembered. I'm personally a sucker for Canon smooth gradation and color pallet. I have Nikon and Canon and 90% of the time I grab my 5D. Canon's aren't perfect either, so it's a matter of preference.

F M: Baan says "the new 24-70mm", but does this imply the f/2.8L II USM or an advance unit of the f/4L IS USM?

The f/4 would lose an f-stop of sensitivity, but pick up 4 f-stops in stability for a static image, perhaps a better result, especially at 1/40 sec.

Net would be 3 f-stops?

Also, would f/4 with the f/4 lens have better fidelity than the f/2.8 with the f/2.8 lens?

I'm sure, since he was using 1D X, it was the 2.8 II, also in the moving heli and shaky hands, IS most likely would not be of much help, but perhaps it could.

Lord Jesus, this thing is so over-hyped that it's not even funny! So is the image quality of my Lumia 1520, love the phone, but the image quality leaves a lot to be desired and focusing is slow as hell!
