Regarding OTF plane metering, I agree though I would have worded it as "refined" Olympus's metering.
OM2 and LX - 2 great cameras sigh...

Most 50mm lens design are derivatives of Zeiss's original planar design.
I would highly suspect, the Sigma is the same too. That being said, there are no real bad 50mm and pretty much all...

Uhm pancake lens predated Pentax's own you know.

Konica Hezar has a 40mm f1,8 lens way back then as well. Carl Zeiss did, so did some other less know lens maker.

I think you are mistaking marketing and market presence for usability.
And don't forget that Nikon and Canon makes quite a number of booboo as well. Remember Canon's 24-105 L issue? The light leaks...
