Probably because they use a cheaper shutter. Shutters on FF DSLRs are more complicated to build then on Crop. Who knows...

Very true words qwertyasdf. But you can use the EF-S 10-22 (385 g) with the adapter. Should be a relatively lightweight package.

Finally someone who describes the whole problem mirrorless cameras in a nutshell. It's always about compromises. I'd rather take my 40D a lot of glass or the S100 (or something similar) right away....
