I just think you don't understand how it works. There is no cropping. Basically 8MP is already the original image. 41MP is the extra bits that "improve" on the original 8MP image. Hence the term...

The 808's white paper :-

It appears you don't know how the 808 works. If you have read the 808's review here on DPReview you would then know how the oversampling works.
In simplest terms, the zoom is always true to the...

Hi there,
Just a note on the terrible IQ you are getting with the S3 when using the zoom(at 105mm) and in low light. I can now understand your disdain on camera phones as a whole. Though I assure...
-
Yes, you made a valid point in that all other cell phone cameras are quite inferior to the 808. The 808 may be slower, though I am referring to IQ alone.
Noted on your priority in overall...

Okay, that review you posted several months ago, I have read it previously and responded to it as well.
-
I haven't read your review.
Re. your comments on "the wide end" and "Again, that's only true in good light, and only at the wide end." , for what it's worth it is in low light that the difference...

As usual, everything is relative. Someone's interpretation of big is another person's interpretation of small. In my mind, a sensor with a size of 1" and below is not considered as large. 1" and...

It depends on how your define "basic P&S". The best camera phone at the moment is the Nokia Pureview 808, and this phone produces comparable or higher level of image quality than most good P&S...

Guys, give the guy a break.
Although the quality of picture does not represent the true potential of the camera, it does look quite special. We don't get too see these sort of images over here so...

These were taken in a bird park in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
More photos. I could have taken more if my phone didn't run flat on battery. Missed out the pelicans, parrots and few other birds.

I have the same criteria as you when considering a quality compact. It has to have good performance in low light situations such as in a bar or dimly-lit restaurant etc. In my mind, as good as the...

Those are small images. I suppose any decent camera would be capable of this quality, ie. not too much of a significant difference in IQ.
Differences will be more apparent if larger full resolution...

Several key points:-
1) In the room shot, the images are taken at slightly different angles. The amount of available light also appears to be different between the two images, slightly different...

There are some crack lines on the armrest of the leather sofa where the dog is leaning on. The Nikon Coolpix A is surely capable of some fine and sharp details.
-
It does appear that the Coolpix A is getting a lot of praise and recognition. I'll be getting one closer to the end of the year when the price drops to realistic levels.
-
There are some folks who thought that the difference in IQ between a $300 smartphone and and Sony RX100 is negligible. Perhaps you are one of them.

No other phone can produce this sort of low light shot other than the Nokia Pureview 808.
Activity older than 12 months is not displayed.
