@onlooker I agree. That quote from the press release stood out as odd to me too. I think everyone aceepts that changing the focal length without changing the subject distance doesn't change...
-
two questions: 1. why would you want to do this? (the end result is quite annoying to watch IMO). 2. why is this even 'news'?
-
Not aimed at the OP specifically, but doesn't anyone buy a camera to just use for themselves these days? Lots of folks seem to be so keen on making sure the complete stranger who eventually buys...
-
yes of course they are (though we are talking about punctuation, not grammar). The point I was making was regarding consistency and 'house style' :)
-
dpr team: can we agree whether it should be Olympus's or Olympus' and stick with it? ;)
-
Wouldn't argue with those choices. Both very nice products.
-
but even Nikon play the game in their press release: "86mm equivalent in 35mm format", yet for some reason they don't state what its equivalent f stop would be. I agree, it is priced...

So you're basically saying, smaller sensors get progressively cheaper to manufacture, right?
thx

Give or take $50, how about:
Nex 3N vs E-PM2/Nikon 1
Nex 5R vs E-PL5
Nex 6 (or D7000 or X-E1) vs. OMD
Yep, I realise that and already noted it above :)

Can anyone offer any insight on how the cost of a sensor might scale with size these days. e.g. Canon claimed a few years ago that the cost of producing a FF sensor was about 20x that of APS-C.
So...

Good grief DPR. Adobe seems to have you doing basic market research for them now, for free no less. Too little, too late.
-
well, yeah that would be the obvious answer I guess :)
But then the pressure plate did take up a bit of room internally, and the LCD display on the digital camera protrudes slightly outwards I...

Hi, just wondering why the lens of the new Ricoh isn't any faster than f2.8. The lenses on the original film cameras were 28/2.8 and the new GR camera looks to be about the same physical size as...
-
Looks great. It's very long(!) but that's to be expected - kudos to Sigma for putting this out. They're putting Canon & Nikon to shame with their latest line of lenses for non-FF users.
-
Don't forget the voigtlander 20mm and 28mm pancakes. Canon could easily give crop users a 30mm f2.8 pancake but choose not to.
-
My bad. I completely forgot that 65mm f2.8 primes were popular as heck during the film SLR days. Everybody wanted one coz they were so useful.
-
@ iShootWideOpen The 22mm F/2 won't work on the EF mount. Plus the EOS M is painfully slow in use. Plus 40/2.8 on a crop sensor isn't particularly useful. Yeah...great kit!
-
Yeah, it'd be difficult for me to justify keeping both systems. I'm probably gonna miss my 50L more than any other lens, but for me (I hope) the reduction in size and weight of the fuji X compared...

Great, many thanks for the reply. And yes, I'm hoping that whatever X model I eventually opt for (possibly even the XP1) it's gonna make photography more FUN for me. :)

Hi, I'm currently contemplating selling all my Canon gear (5DII) and replacing with either the X100S or XE1 (for size reasons), but just have a query about the XE1's viewfinder.
It's widely...
