Just like everyone else, Instagram will now let you send messages
At a major press event today, Instagram unveiled a new feature for its popular image sharing social network: photo and video messaging. Dubbed Instagram Direct, the new feature rolls out today, and will allow you to send your images to just a limited audience, rather than for the whole world to see.
I also just got my Sony A7 less than 24 hours ago. I posted some quick sample shots. I'm loving it; it's better made than the LEICA M typ 240; the M typ 240's EVF is made in China out pf plastic, while the A7's finder is part of the camera which seems like solid metal.
A DJI Phantom, a Sony RX100 II, and a lot of regrets
Famed photographer Chase Jarvis recently had the chance to play with a DJI Phantom during a trip to Iceland. Unhappy with the image quality from its usual GoPro attachment, he instead loaded up a shiny, new, Sony RX100 II, and took that out for a test flight. How do you handle a DSLR if you only have one arm?
Shooting a DSLR one-handed is a tricky prospect. If, for whatever reason, you only have the use of one of your limbs, you're severely limited in how and when you can shoot a large camera. You could use a tripod and artfully compose each scene, but that cuts out many of the more dynamic photography options.
Earlier this year, the winning image of the 2013 World Press Photo Award was widely accused of being faked with photoshopped, or at least significantly over-edited. While the photographer was cleared of any wrongdoing, World Press Photo has updated its rules for the 2014 competition, and will require original, unedited images in later stages of judging.
There's nothing like a local's guidance to really show you around a neighborhood — and now Google Maps is going to get exactly that sort of first-hand tour, as street view has opened its doors to all and sundry. Anyone with a DSLR or Android phone can now stitch together a street view walk of their favorite park, local haunt, or hidden gem, and upload it for all to see.
Next time you're at a museum or an event, think before you snap a photo
As photography enthusiasts, it can be difficult to strike a balance between getting a great shot and truly experiencing the things around us. A Fairfield University study says all that picture taking may be preventing us from effectively remembering what we see, unless we do it right.
