patriotspyke: It seems you DQ'd more than you should have leaving only the best and qualifying. I'd like to praise your cleanup of entries that showed poorly the quality of the challenge. Mine however was very good with its creative bokeh so should have been allowed (a lensbaby radial blur showing depth and motiion -for readers to know). I think my photo needs a reshoot for other reasons anyhow. If your going to censor photo's its best to put that in the challenge parameters so photographers won't claim to have been wronged and make a fuss.
my first thought was that the 'old water tower' looks underwater in this shot, nice
all very nice
Ken Rocket: can u see the hidden face?
Jake64: Why F20?
tried to light it on fire first
If only it were more 'snapshot'!
RuthC: The title of this challenge is 'Beautiful Textures'. I see many interesting examples of textures, per se, but they are not beautiful. I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, etc., but some of these entries just aren't beautiful. Just my humble opinion of course.
seems you have a reasonable idea of whats what. I find applying pattern and style rules a little narrow when there's a multitude of possibilities. I think the arts created importance of proportions etc as style and recognized some basics of perception. I'm open to the idea that rules have exceptions I'm reminded of a friend showing me a collage photo that was horrible and disgusting.. until I realized it was a beautiful picture of potatoes with rich colour and fascinating textures
On the contrary, beauty is measurable and studies have revealed that we all respond positively to certian kinds of things. So very arguable. Beauty is our inherant mental and conditioned evaluation. I'd also say some beauty is enjoyable and some not.
OR (also) 'Light as Rain': lighting as it is raining; as if spoken in simple english
my dogs smarter than dumb voters! Great photos everyone
what is that?
mailman88: Most of the top 25....IS PURE CRAP and I mean it. The contest is Textures: fur. The only way you can judge this is up-close. Most of the top 25 are not close -up pics. How in hell can you judge tiger pics over 30 feet away? Most of the top 25 show fur.....but NO TEXTURE.
Hey DPREVIEW....Stop these phony contests if you CAN'T JUDGE THEM CORRECTLY!
Mailmans rant not U. Rants good with me, have at it on this topic
The voters will heed better instructions, so maybe your rant helps. I'm all for voter credibility powers to give power voting to voters who have better stats. I'm often disapointed when I upload a photo that fits the terms and gets low ratings and I could have gone for the mass appeal
Looking at it again I see there is still nobody there.. really, it occured to me I did not like the cut on the sign bordering so perhaps a picture framing line would work
Note that I didn't choose the sky exposure, the sun is there in the cloud so it was shot for the whole balance. It was shot in a hurry. I just wished for more flare that the window obscured and gave a ghosty glow.
Shutterbug: get bored and start cropping?! I think I just saw the waves moving; maybe trying to flee from the edit :]
nope, just a few words that came to mind and not all the right ones. I probably don't need to explain your photo and points about it. I like it
I like the cars and tower enlarged. I have other shots like that too. I tried warm toning which was good but mono chromatic looking...
Like the colour change, I would try a few editing varients too and see whats best. I prefer viewing the left with a slight crop to the top and right side. Its a change that places the woman more cental and enlarges the field. I expect most viewers to be captivated by the sky and not want to crop.
