Meh. I carry it around in my pants or jacket pocket while hiking in the mountains. It's fallen out of my jacket pocket onto the trail/into snow a few times now. It doesn't seem overtly worse for...

.. Do you have the flash turned on?You can manually suppress it by pressing 'right' on the clicky wheel on the back. I pretty much keep it permanently suppressed.

There's a 'macro mode'? I just stick the thing an inch from the camera and click away.

Due to the low light, the camera is trying to boost its exposure by maxing the aperture. This gives a narrow depth of field effect, a.k.a. the background defocus that you see.If you want to...

Darn. I was hoping against hope that the XZ-2 would be a miracle with Rx100 form factor/sensor size, and Olympus colors/bokeh. I guess physics can only be bent so far...

When shooting panoramas I generally set the sweep direction to 'down' and do the sweep in portrait orientation. This gives you a narrower panorama sweep, which I prefer for a few reasons:Wider...

Ignoring political/ethical rants, I saw a couple people say the Made in China versions seemed to be higher quality. Does anyone else have experiences with this?I have a MIJ version, and nothing has...

You, my friend, are fighting a losing battle.

Don't look at me. It was broken when I got it :) I think the main issue is that if you're not careful you can bend a joint too far, and then the levering action will crack the plastic. That said,...

Yeah, I have a gorillapod someone gave me a while back, and even with one of the legs weakened (it tends to pop off), it seems to work fine.

I'll keep that in mind. Does that require me to shoot RAW? I'm currently shooting JPEG only since it seems a lot of features get disabled as soon as you turn any sort of RAW on.

Hmm. This will probably be difficult to implement, because I usually take these photos while on day hikes with friends, and that means the only sunrise/sunset shots I can get are the ones wherever...

I'll give that a try. Why something 6 feet away instead of the distant landscape? Is that because we tend to notice things in the foreground more? How well does DRO work? I've been a bit skeptical...

For comparison:
Handheld shot on Auto - ISO3200, 1/15 second, F/1.8
Gorillapod shot on manual - ISO400, 1/2 second, F/1.8
Not much of a difference really, but then I'm pretty novice so...

snip previous message*Looking back at some night photos I have, regular auto seems to work fine. Even though it cranked the ISO up to 3200, I don't see any visible noise when I look at the shot...

Am I missing something? It seems to me like P mode does exactly the same as A. I set the aperture, EV and optionally ISO, and it picks a shutter speed for me. I haven't been able to figure out how...

A few of the better photos I snapped with the RX100 on a local hike. If I remember correctly, most of these were shot on Auto/jpeg except maybe the macro of the purple flowers. As a photography...
