zus2: Looks like an old painting. Makes me wonder who they are and what are they doing. Celebrating something? Chanting? Great work!
These people are devotees on the annual gathering at shrine of the Sufi Saint Madhoo Lal in Lahore, Pakistan. The event which is more than 400 years old is known as Mela Chiraghaan..Festival of Light and Fire. The fire at the center is the main attraction of the festival. Hundreds gather around it, throwing packets of oil and candles into the flames as chants of Naraa-i-Haideri followed by Ya Ali resound through the packed arena. The main fire is ringed with tiny oil lamps and candles. Every now and then a person approaches the fire, dips a finger in an oil lamp and anoints himself with it. It’s a sign of respect and the oil is considered holy. The lamps represent the light that kills the darkness within.
Thanks for the appreciation
