NIKON J1 - Can't be beat for the price

IMO, you will usually achieve better results with flash modifiers (i.e. a fill card) rather than two on camera flashes (off camera is a different story). Or something like...

ffmbc -i INFILE.MOV -vcodec copy -acodec copy -ss -t OUTFILE.MOV
This runs very fast.
Slow processing may indicate that there's some re-encoding going on.

ffmbc will handle PCM.
Btw, I don't think there could be such a thing as a completely lossless cutting with a GOP codec.

It is... Although overall light levels are usually more important than ISO. In your examples, the light levels are actually pretty decent based on shutter/f-stop. You can get great shots at 3200 in...

Having the camera on a tripod for most of the shots is not run and gun... but.. it is a very good camera for video. Could have been a great one with 1080p60 (which the hardware is clearly capable...

Most of these cameras do shot at 1080p30 in a QT or MP4 container (albeit at a much lower bitrate with resulting quality consequences). IMHO, it's always worth it to capture the highest quiality...

Not really. Any editing SW I can think of will let you use 60p in a 30p timeline. It's rather trivial.

Get any of the Sony or Panasonic models that can shoot 1080p60. There's really nothing better on the market right now. I own Sony HX9v and a Panasonic LX7 -- both are simply superb (under...

No. Need convert them to AI if you really want to use them.

I have owned a J1 and now own a V1. Yes, the difference is noticeable. V1 is much better. Does it matter? It depends... If you intend to use manual focus, V1 is far superior both b/c of the better...

I have a V1. 720p will likely look better but... you loose full resolution stills capability. In my experience if 1080i is bob deinterlaced with a good deinterlacer to 60p, it actually looks pretty...

Testing for yourself is the best course of action here.
It really depends on many variables. What camera are you using? Is 1080i a true progressive or PSF? What bitrate is used for each resolution....

You've got good tips from Sean... Just to add... Do NOT buy LX5 -- the video quality is pretty bad. LX7 is far, far superior, like night and day. I've owned a LX5 and now own a LX7 so it's from...

It takes A LOT of practice. There are many techniques. One is to "stay with your subject" where as your subject is moving, you move along so that the focus distance is not changing. This is what's...

No "image quality" differences unless you should resolution targets. The biggest difference between the two is that 70-300 has much superior AF (from personal experience). If you are planning to...

Right... That must be why there's a standard Nikon hotshoe on P7700, etc. I have to agree with Thom that this is as if there are three or four different camera product groups within Nikon that...
