Sorry to be a pedant but the (European) Robin is a member of the Chat family which are related to the 'Old World' Thrush family (examples of which are Turdus and Zoothera). In this instance I...

Very nice. My favourite is the Cisticola in the fourth picture. I especially like the different settings for the birds - nice to see some away from the usual garden and feeder settings.
Thanks...

Some have mentioned this before and then with time the lens has got better. My copy is silent and smooth and no steps whatsoever. Depending on how long you have if you want to return it, give it a...

1. Check out the Birdforum website (Camera and Photography section). Lots of birders testing out the Fuji HS50 and Canon SX50 in the field. For bird feeders and bird tables I see better...

The EVF and digital zoom option were the selling points of the 30 over the 20. I think back these last 12 months and I'm amazed how my attitudes, opinions and knowledge have changed towards...

Not totally. The Sony A37 is superb up to ISO 1600 and is really quick with the 18-250 lens. This has been great for the winter birding I do. As most know, as soon as the light is less than...

Nice one Joms. Up until the last week or so I hadn't seen any need to upgrade from the 30. First of all Kim with that Merlin shot, and now you - great bird shots with much more detail than the 30....

From the birder/photographer perspective - you are right about the great reach to get that sort of detail from that distance. Wow. Even more impressive is that the bird is a Merlin which is the...

I faced a similar dilemma a few months ago because the HS30 is so limited in the poor winter light. The irony for bird shots (my main camera use) is that they are easier to get in winter as birds...

I have both a Sony A37 with a 18-250 lens (375mm in reality) and a Fuji HS30 (720mm). The Fuji is my main birding and wildlife camera due to the reach. Its macro capability is superb. But if the...

PaulI'm definitely not a FF fanboy, I've only been into photography for just over a year. I originally went for a HS20 because it was the only bridge camera at the time that was comfortable in my...

JomsAnother classic pose. Probably now my fave shot from you. To me this picture sums winter up perfectly. Could be on a Christmas Card but we all love Robins too much :-)All the bestIan

We've recently had an invasion of Waxwings from Scandinavia into the UK during the last month. Finally a small group arrived in my town. Typically shy they were catching flies from the very tops...

JomsVery nice. The stones add a different dimension; a warmth to the colours of the bird, which I really like. Thanks again for sharingIan

MichaelLove the snails. I keep getting drawn back to them. Thanks for sharing.Ianps I'm not a flowers guy really but nice shots too :-)

I shoot M size (8mp) in P mode for most of my shots. I do however change to L (16mp) for Macro shots. This has produced much better detail on dragonflies. I shoot JPEG only.Ian
