About me:

I'm a former camera crew / editor / video engineer at CBS News. I was also one of the first digital camera editors at PC Magazine back in the magazine's heyday. I wrote one of the first contributed pieces for DPReview (a second opinion on the then-new Olympus E-1.)Today, I produce product promotion and training videos for a fast-growing telecom company.

  • I'm as entitled to my opinion as you are to yours. I have had zero issues with this lens. Just for the hell of it, I put the 7-14 on my EM5 and shot some scenes with point lighting (hi intensity ...
  • No, I wouldn't "be wrong about that". I said I hadn't used it on the EM5. My experience on the EM1 was problem-free.
  • I have taken thousands of photos with my 7-14 and not one had the purple fringing problem. I'm using an EM-1, and I understand that the problem may be worse on the EM5, but I think the whole ...
  • I own both the Panasonic 7-14 and the Olympus 9-18. I've had the 9-18 since they first came out, and it is still one of my most-used lenses. If I had to choose one, I'd go with the Panasonic, but ...
  • I have not seen *any* purple CA on my Lumix 7-14, and I routinely shoot in harsh backlit conditions. Although I have a GX7, I mostly use the 7-14 on an EM-1 because it is more balanced. If weight & ...
  • I don't have Photoshop CS6 any more, but I looked at some GX7 images with OV3, and the EXIF is all there. It must be related to your model camera.
  • What software? I don't think it's the fault of the camera. I don't have a GM1, but I use Olympus lenses (including the 45 1.8) on my GX7 every day with no issues.
  • I regularly use a mix of Olympus and Panasonic bodies and lenses, and I've never noticed any "missing" EXIF information. What software are you using to read the EXIF info?
  • Ken Rockwell is armed with that most dangerous of things: A little knowledge. Sensors (going back to days of the Image Orthicon, Plumbicon, and other TV sensors) have always been measured on the ...

  • Replied in Best Gear Bag?
I have three of these in various sizes. They are great bags, but they lack any serious padding. I put a piece of high-density foam in the bottom of mine to provide a little bit of shock protection. ...
  • Replied in Best Gear Bag?
Camera bags and water bottles are not a good mix, unless the bottle is in an external sling of some kind. As others have said there is no one "perfect" bag. I just came back from a two week trip ...
  • Try Picasa from Google. Fast, free, and can view just about anything. http://www.google.com/picasa/
  • Chuck is one of the nicest and most knowledgeable people in the camera industry. He seems to thoroughly enjoy his work.

  • I keep one in my bag as a backup / second body to my E-M1. When I do use it, I have to look at the EXIF information in Lightroom to tell them apart. So yes, it is still worthy. The newer E-PL7 is ...
  • As far as I can tell -- I don't have a Mk II, but here's the link to the supported RAW files document: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/camera-raw.html
  • I'm running it on a fairly new (late 2013) i7 Windows box with no problems so far. I'm getting ready to install the Mac version on my laptop.
  • Replied in LR6 announced
They might be rolling it out gradually to keep from swamping their servers. I installed it and have been playing with the face recognition stuff, which works pretty well. Here's my CC control panel ...
  • Replied in LR6 announced
It showed in my Creative Cloud updater this morning. I'm installing it now. Appears to have lots of new goodies.
  • Thanks for the enlightenment. I've been doing it all wrong for all these years.
