njkdo: CMOS 1/2" and ONLY 16 mpx, sorry why not 35 mpx?

For me 8MP on this sensor would be on the edge, 6 or 4 would be nice, 16MP on 1/2'' - never. Still, have to search second hand market for old models with better IQ.

G Davidson: What a shame, so many sensor generations and still the poor noise level.

When manufacturers will start the megapixel race in opposite direction, then you'll see low noise. With 6MP it could be good low light camera, as many other small sensor ones.

On Panasonic releases DMC-LS5 budget compact article (12 comments in total)

It would be ideal with 6 or even better 4 MP - many people dont need more and there would be MUCH better low light ability, but this is just the next crap (of course, this relates to any manufacturer).
Probably no company will do that in near future, cause nobody then will buy more expensive crap with pixel density more than 30MP/cm3.
4 MP on 1/2.3 sensor, easy pocketable, 4-5x zoom, internal flash, AA or AAA batteries with aperture priority mode and manual exposure compensation (even without video) - I would by next day!

Neoasphalt: I wish somebody could make compact micro 4/3 (APS) camera with built-in zoom lens of ~ 30-150 mm (at least 120 mm), full manual control and extended customization, built-in flash and thickness of maximum 48mm (in a body size range betwen Canon S95 and Panasonic LX5). But it looks that I should wait another 5 or 10 years for this... :(

10 years ago most would say that X100 is not possible, so I would not be so strict. Simply there is no offers in the market if somebody wants a camera that comfortably fits in the suite pocket and has DSLR like/close IQ with some built in zoom and flash, even if he can spend lot of money on that. I can bet that it is possible, just there is no such a concept for manufacturers at the moment.
