About me:

I have been away from photography for over 20 years and just bought two cheap cameras of an auction site, an Olympus FE210 (good for fun point and shoots) and an Olympus C2100"Uzi" (I want to experiment a bit) I have since handed the FE210 to a friend and my trusty Uzi to my daughter. I replaced both with an SP570UZ. Now my primary camera is an E500 with twin kit and 70-300mm Zuiko ED..

  • It's a really versatile lens, great macro and even better long zoom though 250+ it tends to hunt on moving targets on my E620.  I actually get better results from it on the E500 though IS on E620 ...
  • I take it that's in US $$, makes it over $550NZ for me plus extra for shipping.  I'll think about it :). Thane

We're all very familiar with Dr Frankensteins Creation, or should be.  If not, he took the best bits of different bodies and made an iconic masterpiece.  Ok sure in the end it failed, but that's ...
  • Good point Andrew and I investigated.  Little geography and history lessen first.  Marton is quite a way inland with no seafaring link.  However New Zealand was rediscovered by Captain James Cook ...
  • Thanks Susan.  Me too wasn't till I'd done the monochrome I realised there was a sign for it. Thane
  • Thanks for stopping by and commenting Lou. Thane
  • Found adorning a street corner in the main street of Marton on my recent photo essay.  Crazy thing is Marton was founded about 1850 odd, this gentleman, supposedly a forefather, is dressed for the ...

It's a fine image purely for me based on the fact I love lighthouses.  The original is busy and there have been calls about the power lines (both pro and con).  The original is just too busy with ...

Yes I did see this Minnie, but I think you had it in another thread with a few others from the same shoot.  Well done on the award certainly deserves all the accolades it gets. Thane
  • I recently watched a programme about this guy that goes around the States and Canada appraising collections.  In the programme I saw, he visited an old guy who had collected "a few" Caddy's over ...

I bow in homage to a very patient photographer.  How long does one ever hang around for a great aircraft shot (and a jet to boot) and then how much longer does one wait around for a surprise?  The ...

Impressive E500 shots, and rendering is superb.  But for me is the natural look of the subjects when faced with a photo hungry photographer.  Well done. Thane
  • That is one impressive vista Max.  Good to see the E5 doing the job. Thane
  • I've included the original image OOC from the E620 here just to show you how I manufactured a really old looking image.  Used several processes in LightZone to get the final rendition. Thane Original

I think you're right Roel, and that wasn't the only piece of "modern" society that ruined otherwise wonderful architecture that day.  Pipes and TV aerials abounded. But then doesn't that also have ...
  • I'm not familiar with photo essays as a form of photography, but I suspect it's a series of images that hold relevance to a certain subject, like shooting individual homeless people in their ...

They might be decidedly younger than your ones by a few million years.  Remnants of Totara forests in former lakes now ponds abound especially north and west of Invercargill.  And not quite in the ...
