On article BPG image format aims to replace JPEGs (204 comments in total)

hi

the compression ratio is impressive!!

may ask 2 questions?

1) is the gimp the only software that can save in BPG ? (seeing the gimp and BPG are open source)

2) how many website can host files in BPG ?

thanks

Timbukto: So many bashers...first of all does anyone realize that a EF lens that can shoot sharp pictures on a 20MP 1.6 crop is a pretty strong endorsement that the affordable 16-35 F4L IS will handle future FF sensors for years to come? Second Canon jpegs since recent DIGIC processors have long moved over to a more analog look. People who made up the term 'pixel level detail' hate this look and prefer an ACR rendering. Canon's default is more like Capture One which is also more analog looking and less about seeing individual pixels and more about the picture. Finally the 18-135 kit lens is doing its job...anyone pixel peep the Pentax 18-135? Nikon's new 18-140 is good too, but most likely the STM focuses rather quickly, and is pretty much comparable with the Nikon. How many camera's will give you better jpegs in backlit shadow heavy scenes anyhow? Your iPhone? Prove it. These comments are just a case study of confirmation bias due to DxOMark scores. Lets see Nikon's 16-35 shot on crop

why , can you use capture nx-d with canon raw files?

hi Barney

thanks for the photos , really

i would really see photos taken with medium quality EF lenses

the 24-70 2.8 II is amazing sharp , i haven't tried the new 16-35 f4 II

but would really interesting see how the sensor work with medium quality EF lenses like the 17-40 or 24-105

will be added in the future?
thanks

3DSimmon: This is good news. Lightroom did some weird stuff to one of my 7d files one time, canon saved the day with a perfect render. Looking forward to giving the new version a spin.

hi
but we don't know about the new features
i don't think dpp4 will have the same acr/lightroom 4/5 features

Stollen1234: this is fantastic news...is it free for all users? including canon 7D owners

well
it would be really a sad and ungrateful behavior!
i mean i still have 5d mark 2 and 5d , i love them with all my canon lenses

the next move? makes ddp3 disapear?

blackwiggle: Even if LR 6 was released in two weeks, the information given in this video would still be relevant.
That's unless Adobe has changed the filing system from previous versions of LR yet again.
[LR Update problem from 3/4 to 5... filing system got changed slightly, could result with users thinking that all files were lost .... not a happy state to be in ]

hi
sadly when adobe will release lr6 , it will maybe buggy
need some time (maybe) to be stable with good performances

Are my eyes deceiving me or does the MTF look seriously impressive for a 300$ lens?

And although it was posted earlier, here's a reposted 16-35/4 IS link:
