'Read this before you buy' is usually meant to signify important camera-breaking problems, not a rehash of the tired 'mirrorless vs DLSR' debate. Just a suggestion.

Adobe's logic is so circular that Rene Descartes would get dizzy trying to follow it.

You can't have a larger sensor without also having a larger lens. An X20 with an APS-C sensor would hardly be compact.

Perhaps that's the effect he was trying to create...

I don't get why the EVF is a pain in the neck. I came to an X-E1 after using a Nikon DSLR for four years, and the difference seems negligible. I'll happily get used to having a refresh rate if it...

Simply put, you've reduced the exposure in the 'better' ones. The sky isn't clipping but the whole photo is darker.

This is unrelated, but your wedding photos are awesome.

You can either try increasing the dynamic range setting to DR400, or you can shoot in RAW and use conversion software to try and recover the highlights.

How complex a shot are you trying to take? If you set everything to auto and let them use the rear LCD anyone who has ever used a smartphone will be able to take a semi decent shot.
Anything more...

Exactly, and the other thing is that DPR doesn't really mention anything about where the focal point is set, what lens was used, what f stop it was taken at, etc. All of these have a big impact on...

Personally I find it easier to add contrast in post-processing than I do to remove chroma noise, of which the X-E1 has barely any.

Finding out that Bryan Adams is an awesome photographer reminds me of the time I found out Clint Eastwood was an awesome jazz pianist. You just got *that* much cooler.

For a series of inanimate objects, cameras seem to 'die' a lot...

Yeah, I was looking into this camera, but it's so much noiser than the regular X-trans sensor. Effects of small size I guess.

The Aperture results are great news, because it demonstrates that this remains primarily a demosaicing issue rather than an inherent quality of the sensor. It's just unfortunate right now that...

Larger pixels receive a greater flux of photons than smaller pixels over a given exposure, resulting in an overall smoother photo. That's what I mean by gaining a stop in performance, because a...

It's most noticeable in areas of distant background foliage viewed at 100%. There are really two distinct issues here:
1) The colours get very posterised quickly, which makes the background foliage...

I don't mean it gives a digital look straight up - but you can certainly process it to look very digital. Sometimes it's nice to have options.

I will say that having marked dials for aperture, shutter and exposure makes it seem more like film than any digital camera I've ever owned.
As for the photos, it depends. You can go either way...

We'd all like to pay less, in an ideal world.
But we don't live in an ideal world, and good optics aren't cheap. Every cent I spent on my 18-55mm was absolutely worth it. Best lens I have ever owned.
