On Nikon announces flagship D4s professional DSLR news story (85 comments in total)

I think part of the problem for both canon and nikon is that we have got to a stage where we do no need to upgrade every time. The D3 D3s and the D4 were all such great cameras a lot of pros will not need to upgrade. Remember not all professional photographs are earning $100,000 a year. Most earn a lot less and these cameras are so expensive. Canon were very crafty in bring out a fantastic flash system that would not work fully with the 1D MKIV forcing me to get a 1DX when my trusty MK IV could have lasted a lot longer.

peevee1: What does that mean: "approximately half the size (2464 x 1640) of standard uncompressed RAW files"

If they reduce resolution to 2464 x 1640 = 4Mpix, and reduce bitness to 12 bit, how come it is only half the size of full 16mpix 14-bit files?

Its the same with canon

ezradja: Canon should at least raise the MP to 24MP, IMO

16-18 MP is the sweet spot for me

ajamess: Touchscreen, eh? I don't know how the entrenched photography community will react, but seems like a pretty cool addition when they are offering phase detect AF in Live View.

built in wifi that would have been nice in my new £4899 1DX

On Adobe Photoshop CC: What it means for photographers news story (1879 comments in total)

I don't mind paying monthly, I'm fine with it. But the price. I have upgraded photoshop each time at a cost of £150 - £199 but now they want £17.58 a month. We used to upgrade every 18 months so now the cost is up to £316. THATS MORE THAN DOUBLE THE PRICE. This has to have been the most obvious question of all to ask them.

go back ten years and a good percentage of pros used medium format but now in my area i don't know any. We have all invested to much in Canon / Nikon lens to switch without a very good reason. Will this camera be so good pros will ditch the d4s and 1DX's probable not.

audijam: 6D is merely a step up for amateur to have a taste of the FF magic (but really what's the magic)...don't expect too much from a pro's perspective because you'd rather kill yourself. I was laughing over 6D when I saw the announcement.....HOWEVER....this is not for pro so for an amateur this is WAY better and it does more than 5DII...WHY NOT?!

it better be around $2,099 otherwise....you know the drill~~~

i know a lot of flu time pros that still have a 40D as a back up. If it had the focusing set up of the 7D it would be much better

audijam: i think DP should put up a warning sign next when such a mid-level DSLR comes out..."Pros are strictly prohibited"

honestly...this ain't for pros so please don't compare to 5DIII..this is just a 60D packed with a FF sensor without built-in flash.

I own 5DIII so I am laughing my ass off...but if I were a 60D user I would step up and buy this. It will do a fine job : )

the trouble is a lot of 30-40-50-60D owners have lenses that will not work on the 6D. I do think they should have used the focusing system from the 7d.

if it's aimed at the first time buyer i hope they budget for decent lenses. A full frame 20mp camera will not work well with the plastic lens that are usually bundled with the 1.6 crop cameras

At £700 pounds cheaper than a 5DMKIII and I'm sure that will drop by £200-£300 very soon nikon is on to a winner. I shoot canon but i love what Nikon are doing

This would make a very good cheap studio camera. Shooting at iso 100 and mainly using centre point it makes a lot of sense if you bolt on a good lens.

I have always shot canon but I no longer recomend them to people looking at getting into the industry. I'm often asked what to buy I always answered Canon or Nikon but now I only recomend Nikon not because they are better but for price. The price for the basic 600 flash is crazy.
