  • 6FPS comes in handy when photographing the Washington Monument on a windy day.
  • Created discussions SPP for Windows
I can't get SPP to run reliably on my Mac, even when attempting to run it from a clean installation of Mavericks. So I'm going to install BootCamp, move my X3F files to a Fat 32 formatted external ...
  • Really, the weather has been that bad in the UK??? Or is that you're waiting for that perfect image to eclipse Charlie Waite?
  • Nice photos! Back in 2000 I went there with a 1.3MP Olympus P&S camera. On the way back hit the wrong button and erased them all from the camera. I guess after 14 years it's time for another trip ...
  • Replied in Balancing act
Well, they are wrong or clueless if they don't implement the workarounds offered by the forum members. And they certainly show some type of learning deficit if they continue to use a camera that ...
  • Replied in One trick pony
I have to ask where has this guy been for the past decade? It's a bit like someone being "shocked" that Suzuki does not have a luxury car division. He reminds me of someone who doesn't research ...
  • I wish Sigma could have an optional EVF that you can attach and that gets a feed from a high resolution video output. That way the basic camera stays at a lower price and for people who want to ...
  • You're looking at the wrong sample. Seng produced two files. One mistakenly with NR ON. And the second with Luminance NR OFF.
  • Replied in Q is superb!
Seng, Thank YOU for taking the time to make the comparison. I get to play with new Foveon files AND watch the world cup on the same day. Does it get any better? ;)
  • Without NR the Q looks fine. You have to add a slight brightening curve to the Q tiff. But I don't think now that there is any "issue" with foliage. Luminance NR kills detail in the Foveon files.
  • Seng, Yes, please reprocess without noise reduction! :) I think that will help.
  • Seng, What were the noise reduction settings and sharpening settings when you exported from SPP?
  • In the jpeg you can tease the foliage detail out with curves, selective color, and a bit of local contrast enhancement. I'm thinking SPP may default to a "soft" output with the Q files.
  • Well, you might want to try using local contrast enhancement on the Q images along with sharpening. The Q images seem less contrasty than the M images. But this may not be a limitation of the Q, ...
  • With a little local contrast enhancement they look fine. With a proper portrait it will be easier to compare to the Merrill series. With the Merrill set at -.7 sharpening a portrait can still be ...
  • Yes, or dust spotting, etc.
  • It's f/13 and out of camera jpegs. There was an article a few years ago from one of the pro photographers who took the initial D800 photos that appeared on Nikon's web site. He said advertising ...
  • Maybe not fully direct--just more direct. Whatever the Foveon technique is you don't get color moire, which I get now and then with my D800--not that it matters. But that shows something different ...
  • Well, in the American West light cameras have an advantage when hiking and mountain climbing. It's not that it's difficult to hike or mountain bike to remote locations with a D800. It's simply ...
  • Why is your assumption that the original sensor was a direct imaging sensor? I believe Foveon has said that the RGB model was only a "simple" way to explain it to the public and not really ...
