mikeinak: Thanks everyone! I was on the fence & about to order the X10. I'm not a pro,
however, I'd really like a smaller p&s. Since there is an obvious quality issue in
the manufacturing of the X10. I'll continue shopping. I don't mind spending $600, butttt, gotta have reasonable quality. This is really disappointing. If anyone
has a favorite p&s I'd appreciate your thoughts. Again, thanks to all.

Go with the Canon G1X or even the G12, still a great camera and will not do you wrong!

@AlpCns2 @Headwithwings @nicador

Wow, Either you are all Fuji FANBOY or Fuji employee out in full force in denial, eh!

Tell me this please; how many Medical equipment you think Fuji sell in a year?and how many digital P & S you think Fuji sell in a year?
BTW, so you guys are saying that because some poor Joe spending $600 for a P & S, therefore they DESERVE to be treated like ShXt by Fuji, because some government or private clinic spend million on Medical equipment, therefore they get treated like king? Listen to yourself, you called yourself from a civilize world? Shame on you and just shut your mouth for good.

Reg Natarajan: I've had an X10 for a few weeks. Shot perhaps a hundred photos so far, about half at night in the city. No orbs yet. I'm not saying they don't exist, but I am saying I haven't seen any. I have noticed a lot of blown highlights, but my gut feeling is that's because I'm new to the camera and haven't yet figured out the best combination of settings to deal with night photography in the city with this camera. It's been rainy here the last few days and I haven't made it out again to see if I can't beat that problem.

Daytime shots and nighttime shots that don't have intense spot lighting have all turned out very well for me so far.

I did the firmware upgrade yesterday and, while I can't assess how it dealt with the orbs (since I haven't seen any, yet), I can say it lets me reassign the RAW button to another function, which is incredibly valuable to me.

If the orbs ruin the camera for you, ok. I'm not saying you should feel otherwise. They don't ruin it for me. I haven't seen them.

Show some simple: night time long time exposure shots and high light reflection on shining surface in daytime please. If not then you either work for Fuji or just another lier who don't even have a X10.....

All I can say is I am so glad I got rip of this POS, sold it to a friend who is a real estate agent only needed a camera for interior shot for houses. His company paid for it and I don't feel too bad this POS end up as a company camera and if it breaks or not doing what they needed, they just throw it away and buy another camera. Fuji...sayonara, I will never give another cent of my hard earned money to you and I will tell everyone that I ever know that Fuji sucks and don't care about QC and their customer. I whole heartedly hope you will follow Kodak soon!

O.K. lets see...without Olympus, there are Canon, Casio, Contax, Epson, Fujifilm, GE, hp, Leica, Nikon, Panasonic, Pentax, Ricoh, Samsung, Sanyo, Sigma, Sony, Toshiba, Hasselblad, Phase one, etc. So, you are saying there are not enough competition and R & D???

How many more manufactures and brands do we need???

Enough is enough, can we move on yet? Don't give a Shxt about Olympus or those 7 samurai. Olympus makes crappy product anyway, I hope Fujifilm is the next of these Nippon Grant company to go down...

It's not viewed as the only option, nor the ultimate solution. They have their uses, but don't suit all needs. At least, not yet. Many people in this forum say that DSLRs (along with their mirrors) are dinosaurs headed for extinction. That may be true, but with the technical advancement of smartphones, I think digital cameras themselves are headed for extinction. I believe that in the end, devices dedicated solely for photography (and videography) will go extinct, and DPR would probably have to transform itself to a smartphone (or something along that line) review site. Once that happens, those still using mirrorless cameras will be laughed at as using dinosaurs.

And how many % of people actually using a FF DSLR?

fmian: Lets see a chart showing which brand of lenses sell more than the other.
That should give us a clearer indication of what serious camera users are purchasing, as we all know a serious photographer would not limit themselves to the kit lens.
In regards to Japan, I've always seen it as a region that is obsessed with the newest, best looking gadgetry. I would gather that when the X Pro 1 is released, it will sell like gangbusters over there.

Remember, Manufactures are not Artist, they are here to makes MONEY! They go where the MONEY go, If Chinese and Japanese Consumers wants Mirror less, then they will satisfy the market, you can contiue live in your dream land or fancy Artistic world, but the real world doesn't work like that...

I asked one of my friend who live in Hong Kong and work for a major camera shop there regarding camera sales and the availability of camera, such as Sony Nex 7, he told me that when the whole world are still waiting for stock, Sony supplied them enough Nex 7 to fill back order and sale before European market and definitely NA market. They are expecting a big shipment of the New Canon G1X and Fuji X-pro1, Nikon D800 and D4 in any days now. Also, he told me he already pre-sold more than 100 set of D800, X-rp 1 and G1X already. Which Camera store or camera salesman in NA could say that?

Sdaniella: ... keep in mind, proportions of sales usually reflect proportion of models manufactured and distributed (pumped out inventory).
if a mfr makes both types, and starts to produce more of one type, and less of the other type, then sales will simply follow inventory levels on shelves... buyers buy what they see generally, unless they are particular, most will simply buy whats available 'in sight', and suggested by the sales clerk right there in person.

it would be nice to know how much of the sales dipped and rose for mfr's who produced both types, and how much of it matched or mismatched production level output; that would be the only true indicator if sales are getting better or worse for any particular type (or model line)

e.g.
if dual-makers

initially produce 100 dSLRs and 20 mirrorless (120 interchangeables)

then produce 50 dSLRs and 70 mirrorless (120 interchangeables)

by limiting the dSLRs, and upping the mirrorless, one forces the sales to simply follow inventory availability

Traditionally, Japan always is the indicator for what the trend of new technology or gadget are heading.(Except Iphone or Ipad) Don't forget the asian market(China, Hong Kong, Singapore, India and Japan, etc.) will be the battle ground for all the big camera manufacture, that off course includes Nikon and Canon. WHen you looks at the chart then you will realize the Mirror less share in Japan and Asia is the future of Digital Camera, I know most N. American or European still in denial that N. AMerica is not and will not be the economical or consuming powerhouse no longer, face the future, people.

J. Qian: The beginning of the end for the DSLRs?

BTW, how do you define a Photographer? Everyone spend some $ and get some gears(toys) than going around and calls themselves a PHOTOGRAPHER, how arrogant and ignorant.

IMHO. unless you make money with your PHOTOS, than you can label yourself a PHOTOGRAPHER, otherwise please just call yourself either a family picture album maker or random picture collector. And it doesn't make any different either you are using a Kodak P & S or a Phase one with gigantic lens in front of it, and Yes that including myself.

@ Digitall,

How many % of camera buyer are real professional Photographer or working pro? 10%? 15%? 20%? 50%? How many people REALLY needed a Hasselblad, Lecia, Mamiya, Phase one, 5DMk2, D4, etc. Again, what we want and what we need is a completely different thing.

Stephen123: I resent paying for a moving mirror I don't want or need in a digital system. I also resent paying for image stabilization in each lens. I resent paying for a touch screen which is basically useless. I care a lot about size and weight, but when the camera is smaller than the lens and too small for a hot shoe, that's too small. I don't need a better sensor than the one in the NEX 7. So I guess I'm done with FF. But right now there isn't a camera that I would choose if I had my druthers.

WTF are you talking about???!!!

the GX1 may be fine for good light... if that's what one shoots, then one will be fine, if not, forget it...

Imho, The closest/ better quality compare to the Canon 5D Mk2 is the Sony Nex 5n...
