DanielSz: Is it just me or is this camera a 7D body design + 5D mark ii FF slightly improved sensor option, and some relatively minor technical improvements. Yes, the AF is MUCH improved, but does that justify the $3500 price tag?
I realize that no camera exist in a vacuum and most likely Canon conducted a massive market research study to get to know their users, what they would want to see in a mark iii, and how much they would be willing to pay for it ($3500 being the upper limit IMO).
As I sit here and read the preview and many of the comments posted on here (many of them very interesting, thank you all) I am left to wonder whether my money would be better spent on the new lenses that Canon is bringing to the market. I am very excited about the new 100-400 L lens that WILL NOT be push and pull anymore and have the latest coatings and IS, and will cost around 3k.
But I digress... just came back from a shooting session in the park with my trusty 7D + 70-200 f4L IS... life is good :)

I agree, you should always buy within your means. Otherwise you might end up living in a cart box very quickly.
The point I was trying to make is that IMO Canon did not put enough effort into the mark iii to justify the the 3.5k price tag. Some seem to agree with me:

Im actually happy, reading all this doesn't tempt me to upgrade my Mark II. Nothing stellar or spectacular.

QSMcDraw: Looks like a beautiful camera. DPReview's summary sounds sincere.

Cannot believe how much venom is sprayed about on this website in the comments. Naive, I guess.

As for the price, not reasonable for me, as I'm only an enthusiast. But if the same model comes down in price in two or three years closer to today's Mk II , and it has a good reputation then, I want it. The MP number sounds good as a balance of noise issues to resolution.

Until then, I do as much as I can with my humble but fun and affordable 60D!

I agree with you, it is a good camera. I wouldn't call it venom. We ALL wish we could have the mark iii in our hands... but are upset that it costs so much, that's all.

btw, GO 60D, great little camera, I have a 7D now, but weep at times because its missing the flip screen :(

raztec: Perfect compromise in terms of MP and better auto-focus. This should blow the socks off the d800 in terms of high iso capability. And I'm a Nikon shooter who was extremely disappointed in the MP race.

But the high price, lack of DX option, on board flash (for quick fill flash), usb 3.0, and uncompressed HDMI video make it still shy of the perfect camera.

Dang, why don't Nikon and Canon simply join forces and blow everyone else out of the water!

I agree with you, competition is essential for all of us consumers, and ultimately brings prices back down to 'manageable' levels. But raztec is making a good point. Neither camera is perfect, as each lacks the features that the other one has... funny :) Each system strives to 'fit into' the lineup of other cameras that both Canon and Nikon have. It would be great to have a do it all system, in this 3k price range. Wishful thinking I guess.
