A great review of the 5n, however I'm surprised your camera does not work with third party battery's as I have two and they work just like the original, in fact I think they even last slightly...

My thoughts would be to use the D90 as the main camera and when/where you have to use the Nex, hold it just like you would do with a large format camera with the screen extended, cradle it at waist...
