nagi603's current gear

Sony Alpha 7S
Sony Alpha NEX-3
Sony Alpha NEX-7
Apart from low-light photography, quality hand-held 1080p and such, I also use it for broadcast. Unlike its predecessors, it wont overheat, not even after 12 hours of continuous usage, and it has a clean HDMI out. The 12MP is not enough for a number of stuff, but for that, I kept the NEX-7
Sony FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS
Sony FE 35mm F2.8 ZA Carl Zeiss Sonnar T*
Sony FE 55mm F1.8 ZA Carl Zeiss Sonnar T*
Not really what I would call sharp, but for videos, it does the job. It never sharpens up on the 24MP APS-C NEX-7 however.
Insanely sharp, although the level of microcontrast won't be that visible on the A7S. On the NEX-7 however, it is just mind-blowing.
Insanely sharp from the start, but AF occasionally hunts a bit on the A7S.
Other gear:
  • Helios 44M-2 58mm f2 Bitingly sharp at larger apertures, OK-ish wide open.
  • Minolta AF 80-200mm F2.8 HS APO G It's loud, it jerks your hand, and it is not 100% in low light. Still, I just love the speed and IQ.
  • Sony LA-EA4 Great way to extend the FE lens lineup, but unfortunately still has the same AF setup as the LA-EA2, that is, the now very old A55. This also means that the focus points only cover the APS-C area. It should have been upgraded to e.g.: that of the full frame SLT.

nagi603's previous gear

FujiFilm FinePix S9000 Zoom (FinePix S9500)
Samsung Digimax V4
Sony E 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 OSS
Sony E 16mm F2.8 Pancake
Sony DT 35mm F1.8 SAM
Sony DT 50mm F1.8 SAM
Tamron SP 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di USD
Other gear:
  • AICO 135mm f3.5 Might be old and a bit oily inside, but has verrrry smooth bokeh, thanks to the 15 blades
  • Cosina 70-210mm f4.5-5.6 MC Macro Just your average el-cheapo M42 zoom
  • Minolta 50mm F1.7 Fast AF on LA-EA2, but noisy and nowhere really sharp. Cheap though.
  • Porst Color Reflex MC Auto 50mm f1.4 Surprise of a lens. It is very soft at f1.4, but at larger apertures, sharpens up nicely.
  • Sony LA-EA2 Great addition to any budding NEX setup, but unfortunately not compatible with the full frame sensor.
