AbrasiveReducer: Assuming this is made in Thailand and the lens is from China, it doesn't seem like that much of a price breakthrough.
Go and enjoy the imaginary 5DIII you don't own Vegas which was twice the price of this body with a 7 year old sensor. The only company price gouging out there are Canon you sucker. Every body and lens they've launched in the last 2 years have been eye watering rip-offs and everyone out there knows it. Lucky for Canon users, Nikon are around to help drive down the price of your grossly over-priced equipment.
VivaLasVegas: 5D3 is the only D700 replacement, it is OKAY to jump ship. You don't have to worry about AF malfunctioning. 5D3's AF is a thundering successes!
No one's interested in the views of deranged forum Canon fanboys like you Vegas. It's image quality and DR that are the primary pull and of course you don't really get either with the 5DIII, which has now been superseded by the D600 at half the price.
Check out his posting history everyone :)
wjansen: Seems to be lacking an eyepiece shutter--too bad.
I didn't notice that one. Its essential for long exposure photography. Must make an enquiry because that would be a big blow to many landscape shooters...
vivtorio: Maximum shutter speed 1/4000 sec!?!No, thanks!Better D800 or A99.
lol. Yeah I shoot constantly at 1/8000 with my D800. Don't make me laugh. If you're maxing your shutter at 1/8000 you're not in control.
Dragonfire: heah, unfortunatelly AF fine tune/micro adjustment is missing... it is pity, of course maybe not a dealbreaker, i have it on my D700 but barely use it, lenses just work fine, but I can imagine in 24mpx there is bigger need for AF fine tune... (especially if Nikon quality check is down a bit nowdays... if!)
anyway, really nice product, light FF camera with durable shutter, love the idea of it, and the sample pics are amazing!!!
For gods sake. DPReview have this WRONG. Go to the Nikon OFFICIAL release and READ the spec sheet. AF Fine Tune is THERE.
VivaLasVegas: Looks plasticky, a bit better looking than its big brother.
Vegas can't stand the D800 because it killed the 5DIII, and he knows it. He leads a very sad lonely existence in the forums...just look at his posting history :)
creaDVty: Does anyone know if the D600 has micro-af adjust? That is a feature that is important to me. Thanks.
Sorry man, but DPReview have got this wrong. You need to read the spec sheet on Nikon's website - it has AF Adjust. I suggest a withdrawal of that comment...
George Veltchev: Wait guys ... brand new pleasant surprises are coming from Canon shortly this week .... be excited !
You'll eat your words any day now. Canon has NOTHING for Photokina.
fakuryu: No micro AF adjust? No thanks
It has AF adjust. Ignore DPReview, and look at Nikon's spec sheet instead. DPReview goofed.
AV Janus: I don't see AF micro adjust? Its plain bad if it doesn't have it. PDAF sucks paired with many of the lenses.I often need to adjust for closer focus distances vs. rest.
It has it. Read Nikon's spec sheet, not DPReview's.
John: This translates dollars to pounds as £1303.00 body only. If this priced at £2000 in the UK, then Nikon will have shot themselves in the head big time! No-one can justify a £700 price hike in the UK over the US price! Even at £1599 they would be pushing the boat out!
You forgot 20% VAT but I agree with the sentiment. The street price for the D600 will drop to £1599 very quickly but at that price it's a very compelling offer, especially next to the 5DMKIII which suddenly looks even more expensive than it did yesterday. In fact, Canon's pricing policy is no longer compelling to new users of full frame or step-up photographers. Just look at the silly price they are trying to command for their new glass too, it's laughable.
marbo uk: Rip off BritainWho would buy this in the UK when the D800 is only £250 more?
Actually you can find a new D800 at Dixons at the airports for the SAME price if you're passing through Stanstead or Heathrow. The last time I looked the US Dollar was not worth £1. It's boring - the pre-order lists in the UK for this camera will be VERY short.
Wow, the UK price is BROKEN. The D800 is available for the SAME price in the UK. I guess Nikon don't want to sell the D600 over here then. My prediction is that it will drop to around £1500 VERY quickly because if it doesn't it's going to be gather dust on dealer's shelves...
AnHund: Very diplomatic to give 5DIII and D800 the same score :-)
Wow, you boys really missed the point. The D800 and D800E challenges the whole of the Medium Format market, it may well be years now until Canon comes close to making a claim like that.
