  • The focus stacking features on their new rugged camera should be available in this their flagship camera. It would give it an edge over rivals like the X-T1 and the A7/R.
  • Well said. I think Auto HDR programs just don't work. They are built on algorithms that are based on mathematical formulae that neither recognise nor respect tonal boundaries. Thus, their ...
  • I would like to propose a simple test. 1. Draw a grid (10x10 should do) chart on a large sheet of paper or a whiteboard and place it flat on a wall that has good light falling on it. 2. Set the ...
  • I'm rather puzzled by your charge of snobbery. Perhaps if you were to read the thread again you will find that I made no criticism of the OP's efforts. My reply was in the context of a debate with ...
  • The unusual rock formation in this photograph makes it look interesting. But to prepare it for sale you will have to take care of a few things: 1. The magenta colour cast 2. The vignette at the top ...
  • This photograph has a lot going for it. It's just a tiny bit underexposure but it's candid and in good focus. I gather from the faded colours in your initial post processing that you probably ...
  • Yes, the underexposure has clearly restricted the processing. Ottonis has had a good go and he managed to pull out more detail from the dark shadows in his last version but unfortuantely, it had ...
  • It is a good pratice to always reformat a card using the camera's firmware before each shoot instead of erasing all the images. This is especially crucial if you have used the same card previously ...
  • Jackie, I know a lot of photography magazines are trumpeting the HDR and oversaturated look but I urge you to always strive for a natural look. While the fad of these exagerated images will wane ...
  • As this photo has been processed, I think you should include the original and say what you would like to receive C&C on - the picture itself or your processing of it or both.  Without the original ...
  • I currently use two brands, the premium Hoya HD UV and the inexpensive Nisi DW1 wide-band Pro MC UV. Both are multi-coated but I can tell by the reflection that the coating on the Hoya is better, ...
  • Replied in My Analysis
I've had a look at your processing in ACR and as far as I can see your settings for sharpening - Amount: 46 Radius: 0.7 Detail: 80 Masking 13 has introduced some of the artefacts that you're seeing. ...
  • Well, it all depends on the intention of the photographer. No doubt some do it with the sole purpose of showing off their gear - a sort of ego-trip if you like. While many have been indoctrinated ...
  • Why go to such length? It is easier just to post the file on a cloud storage site. That way even if I fail in my attempt to resolve the problem there may be others with more expertise who can ...
  • You've got some useful actions there. I noticed that many of these convert between RGB and LAB mode to work on the L channel to avoid colour shift. My own experience is that each time a round trip ...
  • Replied in One to treasure
This is a lovely shot that merits retouching. It's certainly one to treasure. I'm amazed by the number of very creative individuals who have put in some nice work. You asked, 'Where would you ...
  • Thank you Jerry1 and Mario for your encouragement. And thank you Mario also for letting me mess about with your picture.  It's a great and fun way for us all to learn from one another.
  • I quite like this artistic painterly effect. Good job.

  • It's difficult to assess what might have caused the rough edges looking at the output. I'll have a go on the original raw file to try and find out for you if you like.
