  • I take it 1=half size, 2=low res ? No.2 is definitely better, it is like no1 is out of focus slightly in comparison, how much of that is down to sharpening? I don't think it is much to do with you ...

interesting, half size much better than the others in terms of noise. maybe low-res is not 1:1:1 but just lower res 4:1:1 !   and only half-size is 1:1:1
  • In this image I presume top is Q and bottom is D800 (because top is better) http://www.photoblog.hk/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/072.jpg
  • I've recently learnt a lot about using SPP5 while editing my recent holiday snaps. I'm slowly going through picking the best, here is the first batch : http://98foto.com/sigma/dp2-merrill/nice/ In ...
  • ok I just made one, here's the link (joke) I bought mine for my G1X - perfect fit, then used it for my DP2M, not sure about DP1M, think that fits as well, but DP3M won't fit. It is prefect for ...
  • I use LowePro AW series cases : Apex 60 AW will fit DP1M & DP2M but NOT DP3M   (without hoods and filters) Apex 100 AW will fit all DPM's APex 110 AW can fit 2 DPM's (without hoods) 110 is my fav ...

From this example it looks like none, or god knows what that guy could do with a Merrill, you could ask him, he posted here .
  • that would be crap if it worked that way and they are binning pixels :-( The way I explained would still be possible though wouldn't it? The examples you posted do look different though, I think ...
  • I do wonder if I'm imagining all this myself as I've not read any official documentation on this, just from what I've picked up on here. The Q has 4 pixels on the top blue layer, then 1 pixel for ...
  • I have no idea what you're talking about...
  • poor Canon, the Sigma obliterates it on IQ :-D
  • is that the same as switching res mode in camera? so the raw file contains each pixel value for each layer, so SPP can average and group pixels to create an image with effectively pixels that are ...
  • more likely the different pixel arrangement of 4:1:1 (high) vs 1:1:1 (low), which is the whole reason I want to see this test as 1:1:1 should look more Merrill like and is what should be used when ...
  • Thank you very much! Very kind of you :-D First impressions are the low res shots have more natural colours, but I'll have to download them all and view them using Faststone to get a better idea of ...
  • The 3D effect is one of the attributes that I like most about my Merrills and is a sign of the high levels of micro contrast you get with a 1:1:1 sensor, so I didn't like the sound of the Q when ...
  • that gold car photo has a 3D look of epic proportions! :-D  but then it was shot in low-res 1:1:1 mode. It looks more 3d than anything a Merrill could produce. But standard Q high-res mode 1:1:4 is ...
  • The point is if Sigma released SPP under an open source license then the source code would be free to anyone and everyone, so people like Roland can figure out how it works by reading the source, ...
  • Replied in The answer
wait, you shot the Q in low-res 4:4:4 mode right ?
  • Replied in The answer
oh, I thought 1 was Q as it was closer meaning higher pixel count. Q does look good in this test
  • I voted wrong! said merrill was 1 but it is 2 (didnt click the images for bigger view) no.2 has better colours and is more 3d Don't understand what you said Ok point taken on the 14bit, at iso 100 ...
